Yes, all Americans are stupid and have no idea what a philosopher is. It has nothing to do with the fact that the books were published and read by our children and ourselves under the other title.

I've not read the books, but I did wonder: does it deal with the actual Philosopher's Stone from the Greek legend, or did she just steal the name because she was writing about a philosopher who had a stone?

Probably because, like all of you, it was assumed we are too stupid to understand the word. The world opinion always seems to be that you are superior to us in everyway.....and we are the one's accused of being arrogant.

It is not a philosphers stone....it is a wizard's or sorcerer's stone just as the American title mentions.

Katie - we're superior to everyone. Why else do you think your so-called leader scuttles round after the mighty Mr Blair, trying to charm him and be his pal...

No, wait, I think I got that bit wrong.

So it's actually a stone? Is it anything to do with alchemists? The original mythological one is supposed to be the chemical that changes base metals into silver or gold.

All politicians are scum....our so-called leaders are just embarrassing....they definitely have over inflated senses of superiority and get us "commoners" into messes on a regular basis.

Well, you know what they say about those who seek power and influence...

For the record, I'm fairly sure that this:

.. categorically proves the theory that I am the dullest person in the world.

The book deals with the phillosophers stone from alchemy, which turns metal into gold.

I think the reason that the Americans changed the title is that "Philosophers Stones" is also a term used for magic mushrooms cut up and rolled into balls. So it could have been a censorship thing.
If it wasn't for this sentence I wouldn't have a signature at all.

"Harry Potter and the Hallucinogenic Drugs"?

    That would have sold well.

Allegedly, "The Madness of King George III" was renamed "The Madness of King George" after US test audiences complained that they hadn't seen the first two films.

    Allegedly.

    *shrug* He kept Henry V.

I'm sure there is a site devoted to Rowling or by Rowling that will shed some light on this.

In the meantime, we should all be getting ready for a much better fantasy novel made to movie: LotR!
