I've been using it for a couple of weeks now. It's alright. I haven't gotten any BSODs outside of installing drivers and crap.

23 here, and that includes bios stuff, ChipAway Virus OnGuard, IDE detection, ATA/100 bios+detection

unforutaly my sound card drivers (w2K) don't work on it, so it uses a default driver, which skips a tad in DirectSound

Integration with MSN Messenger and Passport is, to me, a minus point. I would rather it wasn't in there. I don't particularly want more autoplay features. Autoplay is kind of annoying.

Why do you say it's more stable than 2k? I personally haven't had any stability problems with 2k yet, perhaps that's unusual.

2k does seem a little slower than previous Windows versions.

How is the compatibility better? I thought it would be the same since they're both built on the NT kernel.

Doesn't the requirement that you give away all your details to M$ every time you change your configuration bother you? Seems like a whole OS full of spyware to me.

Mine is as solid as a rock...had 2k for a few months, not one crash/BSoD/Illegal operation/anything else even remotely constituting a crash

It's a LOT faster than Win98 at everything, esp opening apps and booting up

I've found just the opposite, it seems pretty slow. I guess that means either you have a slow Win98 or I have a slow Win2k, although both 2k installations I've used I've been using them from a fresh format/install.

What are you using it on? I installed it fresh on a base PII 350, and it zips along. Maybe there isn't so much difference on faster machines, but it blows a PIII 600 with 98SE away.

I've tried it on an Athlon 850 and a P3 800. I only saw the P3 800 for a few minutes with 98SE before I reformatted and switched, and it doesn't seem particularly quick, although I have a feeling it's just the Windows environment that's sluggish. I expect games would run fine, although I haven't tried any (this is my work machine). The Athlon 850 ran a heck of a lot better with 98SE. It's my mate's computer, and he used 2k for about 30 minutes before deciding it was just too slow and went back to 98SE.

What about all performance tests windowsXP runs slower than 98 or even 2K? And all the games that not run properly (most w/ broken sound) like Max Payne? I dont think XP is that good solution yet..
