    Thanks for your help.
  2. VS 2019 String compare. Can you just use "=" instead of String.compare() ?

    I noticed that this works:

    if (str1 = str2) then
    msgbox ("same")
    else
    msgbox ("diff")
    end if

  4. VS 2019 Re: Best practice for functions return value (since functions do not exit immed.)

Thanks, cool, so VB.NET does support the return syntax.
I will move to that and go with this:

    Public function allClear() as Boolean
    for each p in myPicsList
    if p.visible = True then
    ...
  5. VS 2019 [RESOLVED] Best practice for functions return value (since functions do not exit immed.)

Since VB function do not exit when you assign the return value, this function will not work correctly.
    It will always return True.

    Public function allClear() as Boolean
    for each p in...
  6. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

Last year, I migrated some old VB6 projects to VS2017.
I had the old VS versions all still installed on my Win7 PC.

    1) Open in VB6.
Run project to make sure everything works and is updated.

  7. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

What is the special trick to correctly install VB6 on Win8+ ?
I don't recall the error I came across anymore.
    Also,
  8. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

One feature of VB.NET that I like is the entire Collections class. Lists and Dictionaries, for example.
Sure one mimic that functionality by redimming multiple arrays or whatever, but that's just...
  9. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

Yea, that was not a good example.
I tried to think of what aspects of the code I had to migrate to .NET.
The graphics was one, but was simple enough to also be done in VB6.
    Mostly it was...
  10. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

I had to stop using VB6 for some reason and I can't recall anymore.
Otherwise, I probably would not have bothered upgrading from VB6.

If VB6 can run on Win8 and Win10, then the OS was not it.
    ...
  11. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

Every one of my .NET projects is OOP.
It is a paradigm that can not be done in VB6.
  12. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

Yes, my projects are small and I made it clear that I understand the complexity of migrating legacy code.
For me, it came down to having to use Win8 at work, so I had to move to VB 2005 many years...
  13. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

You can call me a troll, or you can actually answer which OS you are running?
Question is still open. What version of Windows did VB6 stop working with ?
I think it was Win 8. Does that mean...
  14. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

    Vb6 !
  15. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

It's not just a matter of VB6 vs. .NET
Aren't you are stuck using an outdated OS in order to run VB6 ?
    That is why I migrated.

What if you want to use some feature of Win8?
    Like using WiDi to...
  16. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

Does anyone here use VB6 on Win8 or Win10 ?
What version of Windows does VB6 no longer work with?

Now I remember why I was forced to upgrade from VB6
I could not install VB6 anymore on Win8...
  17. Re: No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

    Thanks for the replies.

I can understand not wanting to migrate a massive legacy VB6 code base to newer versions of VB.
This could become very complex, time consuming, costly, and can result in...
  18. No troll. What are the (legitimate) reasons people are still using VB6 ?

    I professionally used VB6 in around 1998.
I kept using it as a hobbyist into the early 2000s.

    This forum is very active.
I'm very curious who is still coding with VB6 .....20 years later....
  19. VS 2017 Re: VB Power Packs 3.0? Need a line and rectangle control. (Needs .NET 2.0)

Ok, I'll just use this GDI thing.
I just need a rectangle and a line, and no events called from it.

I suppose I can use a pictureBox and just make the image some color.jpg

    2) I want the...
  24. VS 2017 Re: Is VS for Mac a full blown VB? Form Designer, etc?

Ok, so the Mac version of VB.net is not an exact copy of Windows VB.net, as we know it.
It does not have the Form GIU building stuff, in particular.

That is what I needed to know. Thanks!

    VS 2017 Dynamically declare a variable ?

    Textbox1 contains the name.
    Textbox2 contains the type.

    In theory I want:
    Dim Textbox1.text as Textbox2.text

    eg: Dim name as String
if I type "Name" and "String" into the textboxes.

  39. VS 2017 Re: Moving a picBox by left+1 is way too large? Twips/pixels setting for the form?

    picBox.left = picBox.left + 1

It is only ever moving by 1 unit.
The only thing running this line of code is in a timer.
    Timer's interval is 50

In both projects, these are constant.
    So, I do...
  40. VS 2017 Re: Moving a picBox by left+1 is way too large? Twips/pixels setting for the form?

I moved the code into a new project (2), and the picBox moved a tiny bit when I did +1
I made sure the timer had the same interval, as well.

So, something about the project (1) makes the +1 move...
