    Re: Moving on from VB6

oh no no no. Not what I meant. I meant, using said software, if I write a desktop application, I can sell the application, as I have done in the past.

    Re: Moving on from VB6

    One quick question.

If I'm a sole owner of a local IT company, that dabbles in software development as an individual developer, are there restrictions in the Community or "free" version that...

Nicely stated. I downloaded the VS 2015 Community Edition to start tinkering with. Thank you :)

    Re: Moving on from VB6

That is what I thought. I'm ok with a learning curve. Not having to learn an entirely new syntax structure and having a GUI for form design makes life so much easier. Thank you for your input :)

    Re: Moving on from VB6

You are correct, I didn't mean versions.

What I meant was, for someone that can read/write code fairly easily in VB6, what is the next step up to currently supported languages that wouldn't...

    Moving on from VB6

    I need a little advise.

I'm fairly proficient in VB6 coding and have been using it for way longer than I probably should have.

So I'm starting to look for some courses online to learn the next...
  7. Re: [RESOLVED] Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

I truly wish I had some sort of definitive solution for this problem.

Sad that it is the case. Use an outdated and barely support OS to develop on if you want it to work on anything older than...
  8. Re: [RESOLVED] Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

Oh I agree, which is why I never thought to check it out.
I went back to my old XP box where I did the original programming and checked the file version of that file.
Then I came back to my Win7...
  9. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

I think I fixed it. So far, it seems to be working.

Apparently, there is a difference between the MSDBRPTR.DLL on the Win7 SP1 system and the XP Pro. A slight version change.

    So, I removed the...
  10. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

    Update:

Calendar issue resolved. Yes I'll try to work towards not using the Monthview, but for now I just had to re-register an OCX file on the computers affected and it's working just fine.

  11. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

I guess it was. I think it used to use dataenvironments and I switched it all over to SQL and ADO. My mistake.
  12. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

Funny that it's not legal for use but still shows up in the program. Anyway, this is an in-house app and the monthview control is what we needed and it works, well worked. I might try to recompile it...
  13. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

Here is the code I use for all my DataReports

    Call MainCon
    Dim SQLPRint As String
    Set RS = New ADODB.Recordset
    SQLPRint = "SELECT * FROM Therapy WHERE Completed = '" &...
  14. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

I believe you. I'm hoping maybe it has to do with something ADO related since all the report data is gathered via ADO. I just wish I knew what to look for. Absolutely nothing changed between...
  15. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

I have no qualms about sending the source code to anybody that wants to look at it and see if they can figure out what is causing the report error every time it is run on an XP machine. I can run it...
  16. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

This is what is causing the problem. The app was designed on XP pro, which is what the rest of the network is.
But I got a new computer with Win7 SP1. Made 1 change to the program, that didn't even...

    Yes, they do
  18. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

It used to, but I followed the instructions on the forum, as I mentioned in my original thread, and got all things ADO related working. Now, the only thing that doesn't work properly is the...
  19. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

    Thank you for your response.

I know this isn't the recommended setup. This app was developed when there were only 4 of us in the office in a small workgroup. Now up to 10 with an actual server....
  20. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

I know Win7 SP1 pretty much screwed everything up for VB6 apps. We have several and updating to .net is not even an option.

Is there some universal "fix" that I can implement that allows further...
  21. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

One more hopeful bump for a Monday.

I really don't want to have to keep going back to an old computer to code/compile it on XP just so the rest of the network can use the app properly.
  22. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

    No other ideas to try?
  23. Re: Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

For this app, there is no install. I compile it and put it on the server. Everyone else has a shortcut on their desktop pointing to the .exe.

For actual apps I release, I use InnoSetup though.

  24. [RESOLVED] Data Report Run-Time error - Windows 7 to Windows XP

Hey Guys. I have a similar problem to the last one I posted.

I have an app that was originally designed in XP Pro. Never had an issue with it. Upgraded my computer to a Win 7 SP1 system. Made a...

Re: App problem - XP to Win7 'run-time error 430'

Yes Win7 SP1. I did the search and found a ton of articles about it.
Found a good link to this article about a workaround: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2517589

But I cannot get the workaround...

    App problem - XP to Win7 'run-time error 430'

Interesting problem I can't seem to resolve.

I have an app that is basically just a series of tracking logs stored in an Access database for ease of data management. I wrote it and compiled it on...

    [RESOLVED] Application Icon problem

I didn't see this anywhere already.

This is strange and honestly the first time I've seen it.

I have a program that runs without any errors normally. I created a custom icon to use that is...
  34. Re: Registry Assitance - Finding/changing certain keys

I got the problem solved. There are about 15 different keys that have to be modified for some of these tasks, but I have got it to work now.

    Thank You for your help.
  35. Re: Registry Assitance - Finding/changing certain keys

Ok, used RegShot to see the before and after for something like changing the privacy setting from Medium to Low, or something similar.

Apparently, most of the changes occur within the HKEY_USERS...
  36. Re: Registry Assitance - Finding/changing certain keys

Guess I may not have much of a choice, but at least its not a defeat, just an alternate...
  37. Re: Registry Assitance - Finding/changing certain keys

Kinda have a little time crunch on my hands is the only reason I'm...
  38. Re: Registry Assitance - Finding/changing certain keys

Ok, now I need some assistance with the Security and Privacy zones, and adding a trusted site to the popup blocker.

From my reading, I found that the Internet Security Zone is stored in this key:...
  39. Re: Registry Assitance - Finding/changing certain keys

    *Edit*

That works perfectly. I typed the wrong function (string instead of dword).

Thank you very much for your help with that.

Now, I still haven't found much/any info on where to look...
  40. Re: Registry Assitance - Finding/changing certain keys

I guess I have a dumbed down version of my ModRegistry.bas, as I do not have any of those other functions you listed.

Do you happen to have a registry editing module that is a bit more complete? I...
