  1. Re: [RESOLVED] MSHFlexGrid - License Info Missing

    I wonder.

Long ago there were separate "developer" SKUs of MS Office that included many of the VB6 OCXs and such. Later this turned into an add-on package for free I think, and then later still...
  2. Re: [RESOLVED] MSHFlexGrid - License Info Missing

It is hard to imagine what might be deleting or corrupting the registry entries involved. I suspect something related to MS Office but I'm not sure anyone ever stated that authoritatively. Hard to...
  3. Re: MSHFlexGrid - License Info Missing

Too bad Microsoft pulled down the 2006 DevReadiness.org web site that covered this along with so many other issues for developers in the post-XP world. I have downloads of many of the videos, CHM...
  4. Re: MSHFlexGrid - License Info Missing

So much depends on what went wrong.

If the problems stem from virtualization during an improper install then deleting the installing user account, its registry hive, and its system drive profile...
  5. Re: Should vb6 Strings be converted to byte arrays when using Com port communication?

It depends entirely on the application layer protocol used.

Most text protocols including "squirt plain text" presume 7-bit ASCII with CRLF line delimiters. You can see that in one Internet RFC...
  6. Re: For those interested in keeping VB.Net a first class .Net language.

I don't understand the Python juggernaut myself but it is what it is, I don't think they can ignore it.
  7. Re: MSHFlexGrid - License Info Missing

Simple. VB6 was never installed properly.

We're seeing this over and over again.

Re: Compiler opt and array bounds checking

Bounds-checking occurs whenever the array is indexed, it has nothing to do with For loops.

  10. Re: Programmatically disable hard drive spinup?

I guess I was trying to say that I don't think there is any "switch to flip" for this because it isn't just some feature designed to consume power. ;)

Something must want access. Maybe even...

    Re: Convert .Mdb to sqlite3

Oh, there might be a market. It is probably just very small no matter where you go.

Things have changed and desktop/laptop PC use and ownership seems to be contracting away from homes and...

You might also read lines of text and split on commas.
  13. Re: Programmatically disable hard drive spinup?

How can you be sure there isn't something running that needs to check things on these drives?

Might be an indexing service (Windows or 3rd party), anti-virus, or ... ?

    Re: Convert .Mdb to sqlite3

I'm not sure where my comment was vague in any way.

One could just as easily assume that your own SQLite support does a better job mapping VB data types to SQLite data types than the various ODBC...
  15. Re: Is Oct 2000 MSDN Help installer 16 bit ?

Yeah, the ACME setup bootstrap was always 16-bit as far as I know.

Starting in Vista, appcompat on 64-bit Windows had some capability to recognize "well known" bootstrap code of this type and...

    Re: Convert .Mdb to sqlite3

Wow, your knee sure is jerkng pretty hard over there.

I only meant that different database connector libraries may map data types in different ways. That's nothing specific to SQLite and we see...

    Re: Convert .Mdb to sqlite3

Another issue is that people often use a layer between their application and SQLite, and those layers often play reindeer games to try to map data types.

Re: vb6 dll built by Visual Studio 2017

Adding Objects and Controls to an ATL Project is no longer possible it seems.

You may have to look into MFC instead.

Naked flat DLLs are easier and can be used by VB6 programs, but that doesn't...

  25. Re: [RESOLVED] Exiting a Nested For/Next Loop

Re: Add an element to an arbitrary array

The problem with trying to "be clever" like this is that if we ever did get a new VB there are high odds these kinds of things will break in nasty manners.

Just ReDim Preserve, that's why we have...
  27. Re: Exiting a Nested For/Next Loop

If there isn't any natural way to do the exiting then use a GoTo and be done with it. Even Exit For is just a prettied up GoTo after all.
  28. Re: [RESOLVED] Save fixed length txt file as UTF-8

The documentation of the ADO Stream object can be found in your October 2001 MSDN documentation CDs that VB6 uses for its online Help.

  34. Re: [RESOLVED] Save fixed length txt file as UTF-8

Shift-JIS and EBCDIC transcoding from Unicode can be done via the ADO Stream object (ADODB.Stream). EUC-JP is also a supported encoding.

These are accomplished by setting an empty Stream to text...
