I always start with the smallest table I can... the one with the least row... the sooner you remove rows the faster the query will be

If this answered the question could you please mark the thread resooved
  8. VS 2017 Re: Incorrect syntax on SQL Update and text trim

I would also suggest you start looking at using parameters for you strings
  9. VS 2017 Re: Incorrect syntax on SQL Update and text trim

Looks like you are missing single quotes around the names it should look like this

    UPDATE dbo.Engineers SET Engineer = '_Bob Munk' WHERE Engineer = 'Bob Munk';

    So your string should be:

    ...
  10. Re: Fixed a performance issue with temp tables but I why does it work?

Yes as that will definitely spill to temp anyway and you can index the temp table if needed
  11. Re: Fixed a performance issue with temp tables but I why does it work?

CTE can spill to disk (tempDB) if they are large enough. Yes a small one will stay in memory but get large in size and the spill. Which is why on larger sized ones I resort to temp tables as I can...
  12. Re: help finding last Item saved n MS SQL DB

Re: MS SQL Server date and time

I have to agree with tg here. You should always store the values in the proper data type for what they are in the database. I've had to go and fix this stuff on peoples systems (as a consultant)...
  18. Re: Permission to save SSIS package on SQL Server.

In AzureDB I don't think you have permissions to the msdb… another of the reasons I hate AzureDB
  19. Re: Permission to save SSIS package on SQL Server.

Where in SQL Server are you trying to save this? MSDB (old way of doing this) or to the Integrations Services Catalog

Dates and datetime are actually decimal values not integers. An NO Use the proper data type for what you want don't convert a date to numeric formats leave it as a date (or datetime)

    Re: Boolean in SQL server

Boolean's are considered BIT in DB land so 1 True and 0 is false and that is all that can be stored there (of course you can set to NULL)

  28. Re: Missing dialog in SSMS when creating index

Personally I never use the GUI for creating my indexes, I just write the SQL statement on my own, I think it is easier for me to understand what I am doing that way

  30. Re: SQL - Calculate alias column based on a datatable values

  31. Re: SQL - Calculate alias column based on a datatable values
