Re: We are going to get the wall now...

Part of that issue is the lag. For example budgets a President signs often don't take effect until a year or even two into their term. There can be all sorts of lag in other economic decisions...

Re: How to crop a picture

You could accomplish what you ask by flipping a few things around such as changing the size of Picture1 before the PaintPicture call in the previous code.

Here is a version that takes everything...
  3. Re: How to adjust the height and width of an InkEdit Textbox to fit its contents

DrawText is a C macro. It expands to a call to either DrawTextA or DrawTextW (ANSI vs. Wide characters).

Re: How to crop a picture

There probably aren't too many ways to skin this cat unless there are calls accessing the video adapter hardware via GDI. I can't even keep straight which versions of Windows hardware-accelerate GDI...

This should be the last version I post, for the benefit of future readers. It optimizes the process a little by making use of prior scans to narrow each subsequent scan a bit (four scans in all:...

Re: How to crop a picture

There was another serious bug that was masked in testing by using white as the background color. Now I have incorporated the suggestion above as well as flipping the 0BGR "VB color" format...

Re: How to crop a picture

The only significant change was top-down vs. bottom-up DIBs. I'm not sure why WinXP would have any trouble with that.

One thing that is "iffy" here is that GetDIBits() is not supposed to be used...

That error &H80048000 is saying "succeeded, but copied 0 scan lines." I'm not sure how you got there. Passed an empty Picture?

Re: How to crop a picture

Not to just display it, but it sounds like you are doing this using the PictureBox as a temporary canvas, then extracting .Picture to use for something else. If so, why not just use Picture1.Image...

Re: How to crop a picture

Because you can use the metrics calculated by AutoCrop directly, and the calling code becomes just:

    Option Explicit

    Private Sub mnuCrop_Click()
    Const PICTUREBOX_BORDERPX As Long = 4 '2...

This is what I get for trying to rush something together on a tablet where I don't have the MSDN docs installed. Slow Internet access also discouraged me from looking...

Re: How to crop a picture

I made use of GetDIBits() above, but oddly enough I was not able to get the bits in top-down order by passing a negative value for nNumScans (aka cScanLines) as documented. I only bring it up...
  14. Re: VB6 - QUESTION - Is it possible to add tooltiptext to individual items in a treev

Correct. I can't find anything supporting tooltips for every node.

Re: How to crop a picture

Here's a quick and dirty attempt. I have not examined the "carpentry" (arithmetic) closely enough to determine whether it is pixel-perfect but it appears to be close.

Re: How to crop a picture

Your requirement to crop leaving some background edge showing can complicate things.

If you want 10 pixels of padding all around but say the left edge only has 5 pixels of background then you...
  17. Re: What is this screen resolution / setting?

After parsing into the binary form manifests get cached to save time on subsequent runs.
  18. Re: What is this screen resolution / setting?

GDI Scaling can also be selected by manifest, here is an example showing the required entries:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <assembly...
  19. Re: What is this screen resolution / setting?

If you mark the application DPI Aware it must be aware to do more good than harm.

Your easiest option would be to mark it for GDI Scaling but that requires a recent version of Windows 10. You can...
  20. Re: VB6 - I made a mistake - I installed Visual Studio 2017 and it broke things

You could try a repair install of VB6.
  21. Re: A program that searches within all files in a directory for a specific string

The essential problem remains that the value wouldn't be stored as text unless you had entered it as text. Even in the case of XLSX files for example, the text might even look more like...

    Re: Elevation

The problem is bigger than that. You'll have to merge the manifests, which no utility supports. Application manifests are supposed to be custom-generated at build time based on the needs of each...

  28. Re: VB6 - I made a mistake - I installed Visual Studio 2017 and it broke things

It probably doesn't help when users run things like CCleaner and tell it to blast away at the Installer Cache either.
  29. Re: VB6 - I made a mistake - I installed Visual Studio 2017 and it broke things

I assume that when VS 2017 was installed it took over ownership of numerous components of VB. Uninstalling it led it to removing components but leaving Installer Cache registry entries behind...
  30. Re: VB6 - I made a mistake - I installed Visual Studio 2017 and it broke things

Well you are now in a bit of a mess and any attempts to fix it could make things worse.

I'm not sure how safe it is but you might try this:

Fix problems that block programs from being installed...

Re: UWP vs Win32 info from Microsoft

  33. Re: A program that searches within all files in a directory for a specific string

Re: UWP vs Win32 info from Microsoft

Stuff like CERN Goes Open Source can't be helping though.

  35. Re: Making Colored Buttons Look Like they are "On"

  36. Re: Making Colored Buttons Look Like they are "On"

Well there is really only so much you can do. These are system controls and if you use a proper CC6 manifest the background coloring gets neutered anyway.

If you really need "dolly buttons"...
  37. Re: Making Colored Buttons Look Like they are "On"

Use a CheckBox control with Style = vbButtonGraphical and see if that does what you want.

These "stay pressed" when "on" so you might want to fiddle with the color to "light it up."

  39. Re: Picture1.Picture = Picture1.Image problem

  40. Re: Picture1.Picture = Picture1.Image problem

A lot of this is covered in the VB6 documentation. For example, see Creating Persistent Graphics with AutoRedraw and nearby articles.

This is also in your October 2001 MSDN CD docs, and at least...
