Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

This is already happening with Mono I think. Last I read about Mono, VB.Net hadn't been updated in quite a while and C# still receives frequent updates. I think that's due to the fact that its open...

  9. Re: My app needs to start automatically on a server....

Changing an app from a service is actually not that difficult. You simply have to change the way the app starts. I have an app somewhere around on my HD that can run a both a service and a normal...

Re: Call VB Built-In Functions by Name

Pretty clever but it takes advantage of polymorphism. In this case it's just as compact as the version using higher order functions but there are situations where it will fall short in comparison....
  11. Re: My app needs to start automatically on a server....

Yea, the task scheduler can run applications across sessions but I'm unsure if it will run an app in session 0.

  22. Re: My app needs to start automatically on a server....

The StartUp folders only start applications when a user logs in. Only services can be started in session 0 which is the only active session before any user logs in.

Here is a page that describes the same thing with more detail in case the MSDN page isn't clear enough on what you need to do.

Re: Memory allocation: Byte Vs Boolean

Also, the documentation states that a Boolean's storage size is platform specific. In other words, you have no guarantees that its 1 byte or 4 bytes. It happens to be 4 bytes in Windows.

Re: Memory allocation: Byte Vs Boolean

Ideally yes, but in practice, I've observed no discrepancies with a primitive type's managed and unmanaged sizes. It returns 1 for Bytes, 2 for Shorts, 4 for Integers and 8 for Longs. I see no reason...

A Boolean in .Net takes 4 bytes of memory. You can even test this using Marshal.SizeOf against a Boolean variable to confirm.
