    Re: Lets Build a Program

That's very similar to some of the requirements I get here at work. The old "just start coding and I'll get you the requirements tomorrow".

I knew someone that used to take two Sunday news papers out of the vending machine on the street, one for him and one for the wife, with a similar attitude about "big deal, they are cheap". The big...

    Re: Ethics

I play fast and loose with the rules occasionally but when I do I admit to myself I am. In other words I don't try and justify it philosophically. I prefer to wear a white hat but sometimes dire...

Re: Cheesed off about the water bill!

Sometimes I just can't stomach how food can be waisted like it often is. The whole concept is hard to swallow. What ever happened to waist not want not. I get heartburn just thinking about it. ...

Re: Cheesed off about the water bill!

OK...we disagree on social security being a Ponzi scheme or not. When you throw in "Just one of the many reasons many want completely open borders." that divides us philosophically even more. I see...

Perhaps...and looking out for yourself is an excellent idea. I still maintain the basic funding premise is sound and, if the funds are not abused as they were here, will be stable. Another excerpt...

  14. Re: Very strange time difference in 2 sprocs run through another sproc.

I think I also mentioned we have a list of SPOCs in a scheduled job, it runs every five minutes or so, that recompiles them. For what every the reason the execution plan gets hosed up and the...

I'm pretty sure there were community discussions and other public forums for discussion prior to the taxing decisions. Did you attend any of them? Not meaning you specifically, so many people carp...

"the truncate should still be in the logs even without a transaction"

That makes sense based on :

TRUNCATE TABLE removes the data by deallocating the data pages used to store the table data and...

  19. Re: speed up to delete big numbers of records...

    Just for Grins :D

Here is proof truncate logs if wrapped in a transaction. I found it on Google somewhere a long time ago:

    CREATE TABLE ##Temp(Id int Identity(1,1),Name Varchar(100))

    INSERT...
  20. Re: speed up to delete big numbers of records...

Copy off what you want to save, truncate the table, reload. Even that might me faster than what you are doing now. Otherwise, it was just a suggestion
  21. Re: speed up to delete big numbers of records...

It is not correct to say there is no logging using truncate. You'll notice in my post I said "The logging isn't as extensive". But I agree about the trigger. However I stand by my suggestion ...

  24. Re: speed up to delete big numbers of records...

I have to admit I can't tell what kind of database you are using or what "deleteTable10" is doing from your post but in MS SQL Truncate is much faster than a delete. The logging isn't as extensive....
