  1. VS 2010 Path to DLL used in Private Declare Function

When using a DLL like this:

Private Declare Function waveOutOpen Lib "winmm.dll" etc ...

Does a VB.NET program look for the DLL as per this old MSDN article:

"If you do not specify a path...
  2. VS 2010 Re: Using Listbox with datasource (Access database)

Thanks again. I'll work on this at the weekend.
  3. VS 2010 Re: Using Listbox with datasource (Access database)

OK. Thanks for that. I'll look into it.
  4. VS 2010 Using Listbox with datasource (Access database)

I want to link a Listbox to a table in an Access database. The Listbox needs to be initially populated from the table on form load; the user can then add or remove items to/from the Listbox and then...

    Re: WebCam Image Capture

    Have you looked at Aforge?

    http://www.aforgenet.com/framework/

Webcam support works very nicely. I have only used it in personal projects so I haven't read all the small print ;-)

My code is dedicated to specific tasks with a specific piece of hardware. I'm not sure how much of it will help you, but here are a few snippets:

    Re: Cannot print chr(34)

How are you declaring df? Make sure you have Option Strict ON.

    This works for me:

    Dim s As String = Chr(34)
    Debug.Write(s)

I don't use the immediate window a great deal (should really use...

  11. Re: Sort array by date - date is in unusual format

That's looking very good - except the order is reversed to what I want. I'd like the most recent date first. I'll start googling ...

  12. Re: Sort array by date - date is in unusual format

I wondered if you meant to put $date in line 57 rather than $key, but then I just get lots of links to "01-1970".
  13. Re: Sort array by date - date is in unusual format

    First try gives this error:

    Line 55 (according to Notepad++) is: foreach($mydirectories as $key->$value) {

  14. Re: Sort array by date - date is in unusual format

Many thanks. I'll try it out tonight.
  15. Re: Sort array by date - date is in unusual format

Yes please! I guess the first thing I need to do is to create the array before the for-each loop, then sort it. I only had a brief look at strtotime() and I'm not sure it will directly handle my date...

VS 2013 Re: Open only files with *.bin

  18. [RESOLVED] Sort array by date - date is in unusual format

I have a few dozen directories with names like jan2015, dec2014, nov2014 and so on. The format is always exactly like that; 3 lower case letters for the month and four digits for the year. I create a...
  19. VS 2010 Re: Use lots of threads or re-use the same one?

Thanks for that. I'm using waveOutOpen to play the wave file (actually a programmatically filled buffer of wav data), so I guess that would be running asynchronously. However, I need to know when...
  20. VS 2010 [RESOLVED] Use lots of threads or re-use the same one?

I'm using a class based around winmm.dll functions to play a wave file, which could be up to 2 minutes long. I have it running in a separate thread from my GUI and it works fine. Once the wave file...

Did you try an online converter? They're usually pretty good. Here is one I have used a few times:

  23. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

OK. I'll look into the PATH environment and write some test code.

    Thanks for your help.
  24. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

As I said, the DLL creates the INI automatically. The DLL then requires on-going access to the INI. My project also needs to read and possibly write some to some of the parameters in the INI. I have...
  25. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

    Unfortunately the DLL wont register:

  26. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

Because you can't use a variable in a "Declare Function" definition. Did you see my second post?
  27. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

Just to clarify, the dll also needs access to the ini file and expects to find it in the same folder as the dll. There isn't a way to tell the dll code to look elsewhere.

    I'm beginning to think a...
  28. VS 2010 Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

  29. VS 2010 Re: Problems with device contexts in old DLL?

I was slightly wrong in my summary: mmsCreateDIB returns a "HBITMAP" (as clearly shown in the documentation, duh!) which is a "handle to a bitmap", rather than a device context (subtle difference)....

  31. VS 2010 Re: "conversion from string to type double is not valid"

Textbox.text returns a string. You can't do Math on a string. A quick-and-dirty method is to use Val to convert the text into a number. For example:

    CreditHour1 = Val(TextBoxCreditHour1.Text)...
  32. VS 2010 Re: Problems with device contexts in old DLL?

VS 2010 Re: PIctureBox "Device Context" problems

Yes, the same AccessViolationException. Writing from scratch is not an option. The dll provides some sophisticated audio DSP and FFT functions which are not available elsewhere.

VS 2010 Re: PIctureBox "Device Context" problems

An exception is thrown. I'm quite prepared to accept there could be more problems than just getting the device context, but an error there would certainly stop the process in its tracks.
