  1. Re: Question about IDE behavior with unhandled error

I am doing C++ right now (from VB.Net) and I can cause some pretty serious memory errors and VS still stops at the line of code - or at least the function call location.
  2. Re: Anyone tried to implement an UNDO feateure using serialization?

My object can be very large - it's made up of several dictionary type lists and can also contain the serialized contents of a word or pdf document, for example. Just looking at a log screen it seems...
  3. Re: Anyone tried to implement an UNDO feateure using serialization?

I do a real lot of serialization of an object that is shipped around between 4 services and a user-interface - speed has never been an issue. And I can see exactly how serialization would help here....

VS 2013 Re: sqlbulkcopy help using vb.net

I usually load data into staging tables - that more closely match the format of the source data. The bulk insert is then more guaranteed to work.

Then a simple STORED PROCEDURE that will review...
  5. Re: Moving Tables from one instance of SQL Server to another via USB

    I didn't know that either - thanks Dee-u...

@Shaggy - why not create a .TXT file that is tab delimited for each field. BULK INSERT favors that type of file. I've moved lots and lots of data with...

Re: Why does .Net allow easy decompilation?

Re: Why does .Net allow easy decompilation?

In the world of a "patent will not protect your trade secrets" then yes - a client-server model is the only way. And then you have to make sure your exposed "API" to this "trade secret" domain could...

  11. Re: How to kill/cancel/stop a thread that I start?

You are probably correct - and it's easy enough for the OP to see if the added check (and sync lock) adds too much to the loop wall-clock time.
  12. Re: How to kill/cancel/stop a thread that I start?

And if you do have a LOOP there is no reason to check the flag of each iteration - do it every 1000 loops or 10,000 loops - whatever is reasonable "wall-clock" time wise (every 2 seconds - every 5...

Re: Should I study Accounting/AIS or MIS?

In 30 years of coding I recall using calculus only once - some kind of formula for an array with an identity line (diagonal) - basically 50% of an array cut along the diagonal.
  14. Re: How to kill/cancel/stop a thread that I start?

Usually the thread - which is doing something intensive - such as looping tightly, will look at some Boolean that is in the main code - that Boolean set to TRUE to CANCEL the thread. That way the...

    Re: Optimize Stored Procedure

The point was to do the BUILD UP of this table with JOINS so all fields for making decisions are local - then do simple UPDATE's after that.

SELECT's in between to debug it.

    Re: Optimize Stored Procedure

You can keep it as separate operations. This is doing the JOIN to make the DATA you need local to this table - then you can work out the UPDATE for the CHANGE.

Take the UPDATE - comment out the...
