  1. VS 2012 Re: How to handle multi user and client refresh

    Something like this would typically be achieved by long-polling.

    Something like this should work:

    function checkForChanges(){
    setTimeout(function(){
    $.ajax({
    url: "whatever",
  2. Re: Runtime Binder Exception when deserialize a dynamic type - Json

    I agree with TG; why cast it as dynamic? There is no need to with this object and it seems like it is just a cop-out method because you don't feel like doing it properly.

    Re: Display a link if admin

    You would query the database the same way you're doing now, but omit part of the WHERE clause that has user_level = '1'. Then store the user object in the users session. You can then access it from...

    Re: mysql charset and collation

    I'm not sure what your question is, but make sure your fields are NCHAR/NVARCHAR and not CHAR or VARCHAR in MySQL. NCHAR/NVARCHAR support UTF8 characters, whereas VARCHAR/CHAR only support ASCII.
  5. Re: VBForums Beautifier - A google chrome extension that will slightly modifies the l

    Not sure if you're interested, but I wrote a tool a while ago that I use regularly on VBForums that allows conversion of normal text into a code block.

    Might be handy to have in the extension...
  6. Re: Dont display my logged in username

    What have you tried yourself? It seems every post I see you make, you're posting what you have and how you want it modified, but there is never an attempt on your part to show what exactly you want...
  7. Re: how to avaoid io.***********Exception file name too long

    What happens if you print out the length of the variables before you attempt the write? Does it give you the length you're expecting?
  8. Re: VBForums Beautifier - A google chrome extension that will slightly modifies the l

    Nice, glad to hear you're still adding features :)

    As for the screenshot, the 2nd one is the one that actually displays in my profile, I just took a screenshot; it displays as blurry. However,...
  9. Re: VBForums Beautifier - A google chrome extension that will slightly modifies the l

    It appears that the badge doesn't work when a user has a gif as their avatar. For me, it just shows a white block.

    Also, the image seems stretched, causing it to look slightly blurry.

  10. Re: how to avaoid io.***********Exception file name too long

    Can you post the full filepath and filename?
  11. Re: how to avaoid io.***********Exception file name too long

    You can avoid it by checking both the file name (ensuring it is less than 260 characters) and the filepath (ensuring it is 248 characters) before writing the file.

    Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

    Not sure this is the right place for this since this post is supposed to be about a new VB6, but his numbers seem off.

    For example, if you go into tiobe right now and check C#, he seems to have...

    VS 2013 Re: MVC for simple site?

    MS MVC bashing leads me to post again that NancyFx is a nice, lightweight framework that handles MVC very cleanly and doesn't have the bloat of MS's MVC implementation.
  14. Re: Bootstrap: how to use "Save Changes" in Modal?

    Yeah, it's all done through bootstrap 3. It just draws a modal window to the bottom of the body and removes it when the window is closed.

    Here is the dialog code:

    var ModalWindow = function...
  15. Re: Bootstrap: how to use "Save Changes" in Modal?

    A lot of this really depends on how you're drawing the dialog. Is it static on the page? If so, you could just bind to the save changes button.

    Is it dynamically drawn? Then you may need to add...
  16. Re: VBForums Beautifier - A google chrome extension that will slightly modifies the l

  17. Re: How do you all handle the backup of databases in your systems

    It is handled 100% by our operations team. Any time we deploy a new application, they set up the database, create the credentials and modify our application config so we don't even know where the...

    Re: Deserialize Json in c#

    Since it is now a list of RootObjects, you need to loop through it.

    foreach (var item in obj){
    Console.WriteLine(item.Caption);

    Re: Deserialize Json in c#

    The problem is the call you're making returns an array.

    Change your code to be

    List<RootObject> obj = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<List<RootObject>>(responseText);

    And it should fix...

    Re: Enabled and Disabled Button Properties

    As far as I know, you can't disable a button using CSS.

    Is there any reason you're not just toggling the disabled attribute of a button/input to disable/enable it?

  30. Re: Results of the annual StackOverflow developer survey

    If you hate MS MVC, you might like some more lightweight MVC frameworks such as Nancy. I use Nancy for all of my web development and absolutely love it right now.
  31. Re: VBForums Beautifier - A google chrome extension that will slightly modifies the l

    Another glitch: If you go to the member list, the "reputation" column flashes like you have on the "rate this post" link.
  32. Re: VBForums Beautifier - A google chrome extension that will slightly modifies the l

    The extension also breaks the "rate this post" option. When clicking it, it displays behind the posts, so you can't actually enter anything.
  33. Re: VBForums Beautifier - A google chrome extension that will slightly modifies the l

    Just loaded it up and so far I like it. I'll let you know if it does anything wonky :)
