  1. Re: Can someone help me convert this code to vb.net?

Did you try an online converter? They're usually pretty good. Here is one I have used a few times:

  2. VS 2012 Re: Need your help with a temperaure converter

  3. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

OK. I'll look into the PATH environment and write some test code.

    Thanks for your help.
  4. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

As I said, the DLL creates the INI automatically. The DLL then requires on-going access to the INI. My project also needs to read and possibly write some to some of the parameters in the INI. I have...
  5. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

    Unfortunately the DLL wont register:

"The module “sstveng.dll” was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that “sstveng.dll” is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try...
  6. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

Because you can't use a variable in a "Declare Function" definition. Did you see my second post?
  7. VS 2010 Re: Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

Just to clarify, the dll also needs access to the ini file and expects to find it in the same folder as the dll. There isn't a way to tell the dll code to look elsewhere.

    I'm beginning to think a...
  8. VS 2010 Where to install DLL that automatically creates INI file?

My project uses a third-party dll which automatically creates an ini file in the same folder as the dll. My project then needs to read from and write to that ini file, so although my app's folder in...
  9. VS 2010 Re: Problems with device contexts in old DLL?

I was slightly wrong in my summary: mmsCreateDIB returns a "HBITMAP" (as clearly shown in the documentation, duh!) which is a "handle to a bitmap", rather than a device context (subtle difference)....
  10. VS 2010 Re: Problems with device contexts in old DLL?

Still trying to get this to work. If anyone wants to try out the code, the DLL is available here:

    http://hamsoft.ca/pages/programmers.php

I know it's a big ask for someone to download the DLL...
  11. VS 2010 Re: "conversion from string to type double is not valid"

Textbox.text returns a string. You can't do Math on a string. A quick-and-dirty method is to use Val to convert the text into a number. For example:

    CreditHour1 = Val(TextBoxCreditHour1.Text)...
  12. VS 2010 Re: Problems with device contexts in old DLL?

I've started playing with marshalling (not sure I'm doing it right) and it hasn't helped. I've also tried changing the function definitions to use the format <DllImport("sstveng.dll")> but still not...
  13. VS 2010 [RESOLVED] Problems with device contexts in old DLL?

I'm still wrestling with the old DLL as posted here: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?778541

VS 2010 Re: PIctureBox "Device Context" problems

passel - your method seems to have fixed the exception, although the function that is called with the hdc isn't actually working yet. I'll work on it more tomorrow. Thanks to dday9 for your input too.

VS 2010 Re: PIctureBox "Device Context" problems

Yes, the same AccessViolationException. Writing from scratch is not an option. The dll provides some sophisticated audio DSP and FFT functions which are not available elsewhere.

VS 2010 Re: PIctureBox "Device Context" problems

An exception is thrown. I'm quite prepared to accept there could be more problems than just getting the device context, but an error there would certainly stop the process in its tracks.

VS 2010 Re: PIctureBox "Device Context" problems

I didn't think a "handle" was quite the same thing as a "handle to a device context". Unfortunately using the handle of the picturebox doesn't work.

VS 2010 PIctureBox "Device Context" problems

  21. VS 2010 Re: Can't seem to fix "Mixed mode assembly" error using app.config

Fixed it! I misled you about the error. In the IDE I couldn't get an exception - the code just froze and wouldn't run. When I ran the .exe from the bin folder I got the "Mixed Mode Assembly" message...
  22. VS 2010 [RESOLVED] Can't seem to fix "Mixed mode assembly" error using app.config

  23. Re: Access to the path '' is denied?

System.IO.Path.GetFileName(ImageURL) should give you the filename.
  24. Re: Access to the path '' is denied?

I think you need to specify a full filename, not just a folder name. Something like:

    WC.DownloadFile(ImageURL, "C:\Users\Public\Documents\testfile.txt")
  25. Re: Access to the path '' is denied?

Really need to see your code, but as there shouldn't be too many problems accessing the Public folder, my guess would be a wrongly concatenated pathname; a missing slash or too many slashes or...

Re: get FTP file upload completed properly

Why do you catch the exception, ignore it and then always return true? I would start by returning false when an exception occurs. How you proceed from that point may depend upon what the exception is.
  27. VS 2012 Re: Getting Average RGB Color Value of Entire Screen

You might want to consider converting the RGB values to luminance, which will give you the overall "brightness" of the image. Luminance = R * 0.3 + G * 0.59 + B * 0.11.

    Also check out fastpix from...

  33. VS 2010 Re: Writing to parallel port - Windows 7 64-bit

I have only used the 64-bit version so I don't think I can be of any help. If I needed to use 32-bit I would just look at the documentation on the highrez.co.uk website.

  40. VS 2013 Re: Get X, Y of 1 pixel of a color in a image?
