Re: Hey All, New Developer here. :)

I never saw him as a troll. To me part of being a troll is trying to upset people and make them angry. Moti never did that. He was either certifiably insane or he was happy to portray hiself as...
  2. Re: Biggest Impact - TV/Movie Tech that's doesn't exist

So rather than a teleporter you'd have a beer. That sounds like a great idea. We should all have a beer.

And I can't believe nobody has suggested pleasure droids yet.

Re: Problem with variable in SQL query

Si's spot on here but I thought it would also be worth mentioning that you could wrap the table name in square brackets if the spaces, minus sign etc are really important to you.

They told me I'd probably want to take the next day off work but didn't neccessarily have to.

Surely that should be see voyage.

    Re: Frickin' Lasers for Eyes!

OK, that's not the impression I got but perhaps I miss-understood. That does creep me out a bit but I can live with it.

Sooo, less than two weeks then. I must admit, I already feel a bit nervous.

    Re: Merge SQL Statements

That's good work. I like it when I see someone test for results instead of just accepting what they're told.

The performance increase probably hasn't come from the CTEs as such but rather from...

I've booked in for the 1 May. I got the surgeons name and checked him out. His operation count runs into the hundreds for this procedure and every single one of them has been successful. Can't...

    VS 2010 Re: Visual Inheritance

I don't know Visual Fox Pro so, as JM said, a better explanation would help. But I did take a quick gander at google and from what I understand Do Default is the equivalent of calling MyBase.Method...

    VS 2010 Re: Visual Inheritance

I don't think that's right. I haven't got an ide in front of me to double check but I'm pretty sure that it's only the events that behave that way. If you call a method it will run the most...
  15. VS 2008 Re: Programming exam help please

Yep, that's the idea. As a rule we don't want to undermine the eductaion or examination process by just handing out answers. We'll steer you in the right direction but we want to see you do the...
  16. VS 2008 Re: Programming exam help please

I'm pretty sure it doesn't but this shouldn't be a difficult problem.

    Re: [RESOLVED] Who am I?

Tyson, do you have a kung fu grip and a switch on the back of your head that makes your eyes move back and forwards? Because that would be way cool.
  18. VS 2012 Re: Use code on multiple forms without copying it? inheritance?

Yes, that's the point of inheritance. All the derived forms share the behaviour of the forms they inherit from. If the behaviour of the inherited form changes then so does the behaviour of all the...
  19. VS 2012 Re: Use code on multiple forms without copying it? inheritance?

You mentioned inheritance in your thread title. Why not use it? You simply design a form, put that method into it, along with any others that you want to share, and then have all your other forms...

  23. Re: why do people advise using C++ when it comes to building a webkit based webbrowse

Sort of. If a VB Runtime exists for a particular platform then you could install it and run your VB app on that platform. The problem is that the VB runtime only exists for Windows. So you can...
  24. Re: One question poll - What does Star Trek have to do programming?

Well, they'll be used to decide which star trek captain's the best. That's a crucially important issue.:)

  26. Re: One question poll - What does Star Trek have to do programming?

Brad did say in another thread that the second poll would be more "fun" so I guess they'll be a mix of programming polls and off topic polls.

To be fair, the programming community does probably...

  38. Re: Validation -- is there a more steamlined method?

The reason for not using IsNumeric is because it doesn't check that a string is a number. It checks that a string can be resolved to a number. For example, isnumeric("12*2") will return true. ...
