    Re: Mobile Web Server

    Hmm, what about another option?

There are iOS and Android apps that provide an on-device web server supporting PHP and/or CGI and MySQL. So a local web app done in PHP might be able to make use...
  3. Re: Supreme Court Declares Same-Sex Marriage Legal In All 50 States

I'm not sure how this is a fine point that can escape anyone though:

Basically what these do is move the burden of all of these things further onto single, divorced, widowed, and otherwise "not...

    Re: VB6 - JsonBag, Another JSON Parser/Generator

No need for CDec() there. The very first thing that the UnixToDate() method does is call CDbl(UnixTimestampValue).

Also your dateD should be As Date in most cases.

    Re: Surprising optical illusion

The optical illusion that always fools me is the paycheck. It always looks larger than it is until the bills are paid and its actual size is revealed once again.

    Re: Mobile Web Server

Ok, here is something that might come closer to what you need:

    VENSMILEŽ iPC002 Wintel Mini PC

Basically a set of netbook/tablet components with a battery on-board and Win8.1 installed in a...
  8. Re: hiding progress window during file transfer

FileCopy is probably just a thin wrapper on CopyFileA in Kernel32, and I see nothing helpful there.

Calling SHFileOperationA or SHFileOperationW in Shell32 might work if you set FOF_NO_UI (a group...
  9. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

I agree it is unlikely that users will someday be held for ransom until they fork over a credit card and sign up for recurring subscription fees.

Most of this stuff looks like a troupe of...

    Re: Accessing web data

Or the text might be written into the page by script loaded from an off-page file (script tag with a src attribute). Or script that fetches more script to execute and then that writes the text. Or...
  11. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

I wouldn't expect the large updates to come more often than 12 to 18 months apart, probably closer to 24 months on average.

The problem is getting notice, details, and test systems ahead of time...
  12. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

I'm far more worried that with no warning a major update gets pushed out and umpteen of my programs stop working for every user on Windows 10 because some feature was removed or altered or a new...
  13. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

Well at some point Windows 7 will be like Windows XP: unsupported so no new security exploit patches and an increasing danger to you and everyone else on the Internet as your PC gets zombied and...
  14. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

The real "why" is as always: time marches on. Windows 7 is already quite old. People got too used to the idea of a "perpetual Windows" when they locked themselves into Windows XP for so very long....
  15. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

Windows 10 Upgrades Cannot Be Stopped spells out the reality as announced at this point. Sorry about the awkward site.
  16. Re: Supreme Court Declares Same-Sex Marriage Legal In All 50 States

So you find an affectionate canary?
  17. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

While that may sound spiffy, if you look into it the only advantage they gain is a brief delay. After that they must accept the updates to get back on schedule or else they get no more updates and...
  18. Re: VB6 dont release write protection from opened file

I'm not sure what you hope a double-click would do but maybe you have software installed that has grabbed the .DBF extension and registered itself as the default tool?

In any case, I'm not seeing...

Re: no installable isam (error 3170)

This error is almost always telling you that you have a syntax error in your connection string.

The message comes from Jet, and to use Jet with an MDB file no IISAM is needed. So what it is...

Re: 64-bit OS vs 32-bit OS

Actually they tend to make use of a combination of eMMC, SSD, and plain old flash memory devices (wired in and/or on plugin cards). I can't think of any that rely on volatile RAM disk.

    Few were...
  21. Re: [VB6] Reg-Free COM at runtime via Microsoft.Windows.ActCtx

Excellent points, DLLAsm is very simplistic.

I am fairly certain that the typelib version is required to be hex. Sadly the published schema doesn't say this, probably because there isn't any XML...

Re: 64-bit OS vs 32-bit OS

Weird jump in reasoning, since you already listed the reasons. 64-bit means more hardware, more power consumption, and more heating. Those can conspire to make a given mobile device impractical or...

Re: 64-bit OS vs 32-bit OS

The x64 architecture you are talking about has been pushed by hardware vendors as a way of keeping profits up and little more. As you have seen, when reality intrudes they also fall back to x86 for...
  24. Re: VB6 dont release write protection from opened file

I'd worry far less about the performance these days than the potential for unanticipated side effects caused by automagic (re-)creation.

In this case it shouldn't be a problem one way or the other...

    Re: Mobile Web Server

You might have originally been thinking of something like Sony's WG-C10 series products. Amazon is selling these older devices off for around $23 USD right now. They're about 2"x4.25"x0.75" thick,...
  28. Re: VB6 dont release write protection from opened file

If you close the connection that was opened with write (or read/write) access then you should be able to open a new connection from the same or another process.

There shouldn't be any reason why...

    Re: VB6 - JsonBag, Another JSON Parser/Generator

The stuff you posted is not legal JSON text.

However if you strip off the junk surrounding the valid JSON:

    jQuery18308002048165113468();

... then it parses just fine.

    As far as I can...

  31. Re: VB6 dont release write protection from opened file

First, it isn't "ADODB" which is just the name of one of the many libraries that make up ADO. So what you don't know is ADO, not "ADODB." I'm afraid you're picking up script kiddie speak from many...
  32. Re: [VB6] Reg-Free COM at runtime via Microsoft.Windows.ActCtx

I don't believe Microsoft.Windows.ActCtx was designed to load manifests from PE file resources. I haven't seen a working example of it and I had no luck creating one myself.
  33. Re: Supreme Court Declares Same-Sex Marriage Legal In All 50 States

Ahh but do you get the "married filing jointly" income tax breaks, spousal benefits from work, reduced auto insurance rates, etc?
  34. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

    It gets better.

A given set of random hardware making up an individual PC is supported by Windows 10... until the day it isn't any longer. That day being up to Microsoft.

    So one day along...
  35. Re: We knew it: Microsoft hates its customers

I'm not sure how Windows XP figures into any of this. It is so old now that it shouldn't be on anyone's radar anymore... but reality can be different. The US Navy made the mistake of hanging back...

    Re: Improve VB6 Controls' Appearance?!

    Function is a...
