Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

Not really bait. If someone finally has come up with a decent migration tool (which would be more than MS managed) then it might alleviate a lot of the worries of the VB6ers. It would mean moving...

Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

It seems relevant to point out that there seems to be a "VB6 Migration" ad running on the forum. Sadly I only spotted it as I navigated away from a page and now it doesn't seem to want to come back...
  4. Re: [RESOLVED] why isn't there a code-tag button in the quick reply?

    :thumb:

That's a great addition. As an after thought, might it be worth including the language as VB by default in the highlight? I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad suggestion as we also...
  5. Re: Cleaning up Excel Interop - to GC or not to GC

Not necessarily. This is for a stateless service that carries out anaytics. The user can choose to write out the results of those analytics to a variety of data stores (so far SQL Server, CSV,...

It seems you're right, WestConn. It took me a little bit of searching to find an example so I'll link it here:-

  8. Re: Cleaning up Excel Interop - to GC or not to GC

The problem with Excel not cleaning up properly is caused by left over references to com cobjects which the garbage collector doesn't know to collect. If I do this:-

  10. Re: Cleaning up Excel Interop - to GC or not to GC

I do use ADO when reading and that works fine. The problem I'm getting is when writing, sadly.
  11. Re: Can I "Share" a type between two data services?

That sounds the wrong way round to me. The WCF service should implement all the types it needs. If it needs to expose them to a consumer of the service (i.e. as a parameter or return type) then it...
  12. Can I "Share" a type between two data services?

I've got a few types that are commonly used between several different WCF services. I'd like to be able to expose those types on a single endpoint and have them reusable against all the services. ...

Re: [VB6] - Compare images the fast way

Hi Lukie Luke and welcome to the forums

Please don't piggyback your questions onto old threads like this. 1. It clutters up the forums and 2. It means you're less likely to recieve an answer. ...

Re: [VS 2012] The operation has timed out

WebClient.DownlaodData has a timeout period assosciated with it to prevent your application from just hanging if the underlying communications break down. If your request is timing out you should...
  15. Re: Cleaning up Excel Interop - to GC or not to GC

Updated my code to use arrays as suggested. It works and simplfyis everything so thanks. It still hangs when I wait for Pending Finalizers but I think this was a worthwhile exercise anyway.
  16. Re: why isn't there a code-tag button in the quick reply?

I actually think it sort of is a big deal. While alot of us have quick ways of working around it, code being posted without using code tags is one of the main gripes I see, particular being levelled...

Re: How to select profile picture

    Dilettante is 100% right.

What you're doing doesn't sound particularly malicious to me but, none the less, it does violate Twitter's terms of service so discussing it here violates our AUP. ...

    Hi Guys

VS 2012 Re: Shorten SQL Statement

    What is "it"? An executable?

Normally this isn't something you would write into an executable itself but rather somethiong you would do in a deployment package. How are you deploying "it"?

I have no idea why that would be referred to as "Compliance Checking". As a term "Compliance Checking" usually just means a process by which an organisation ensures it's complying with the standards...
