    Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

    Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

    Thanks for the detailed info - I guess I really do need to seriously think about booting into Win 7 when I start up. :(

    Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

    Just had a quick play with the second demo before going out; folder contained a mix of formats (AVI, MP4, WMV). The vector param in VectorContains was always empty when called and, hence, errored at...

    Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

    Surely the fact that codecs are needed suggests that, however Windows accomplishes this, at some point a filter graph is being built?

    Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

    Of course :) i was just pointing out the LAV thing in case you didn't follow such things and found it helpful to know. I was originally going to say 'fyaori' (for yours and other readers info) rather...

    Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

    Interesting dilettante. fyi, LAV Filters is more widely-used than ffdshow these days for DirectShow and supports more (pretty much all) formats...

    Re: Need to Loop these events

    The way to get this to loop, the way you have coded it, is to press the button called 'Command1' repeatedly...

    But seriously that code will only ever execute when that button on your form is...

    Re: rretinal scanner

    Check the codebank - there are literally dozens of examples there. Most of us start with 'Hello World' and then move on to retinal scanning apps...
  9. Re: Multiple conditions for a sql statement

    You need quotes around "b"
  10. Re: Parsing for field does not work for values ending 0

    I would have expected all three methods to produce the right result??? The only way your first approach might not 'appear' to work is if there were two trailing spaces at the end of your values, i.e....

  12. Re: VB6 lightweight PNG-Controls (4-State-PngButtons and a moveable Png-Image/Sprite)

  13. [vbRichClient] Interactive Dartboard Demo

    Here's something I put together for fun. It's an interactive dartboard that supports mouse-over and click events.

    The idea was that it could become a score-recording application but once I got to...
  14. Re: how to set proper Scrollbar glide and blank strip?

    You need to calculate it yourself based on the number of items that are visible in your list box

    Option Explicit

    Private Sub Form_Load()
    SetScrollbarRatio 1, 27, 18
    End Sub

    Re: Property Let and Get

    Yes, I thought that, too. But when I tried to find some documentation to confirm it I couldn't so (I confess) I assumed I was mistaken and that it perhaps applied to another language...

    Re: Property Let and Get

    Before it crops up - if it hasn't yet - your Property Let signature should only take one parameter, not two.

    If you need to pass two parameters

    DON'T use:

    Public Property Let...

    Re: Tweaking Do ... Loop

    I fail to see how the absence of an 'Exit clause' for an If statement is a shortcoming (or even true!). By it's very definition, an If statement is conditional; it doesn't need an Exit clause because...
  19. Re: Mouse Move event for an image that is part of an array.

    The event signature for mouse move is

    Private Sub GuidedReadingPickON_MouseMove(Index As Integer, Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)

    and NOT

    Private Sub...
  20. Re: [RESOLVED] Using a variable for a control name

    You're welcome...
  21. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    Cool.
  22. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    Yes, add all that you need. You only need Get if you want to read the value and you only need Let if you want to set a value for that property.
  23. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    Work-around til a better answer comes along

    Add this code to the UserControl created in my previous post

    Option Explicit

    Public Property Get tag()
    tag = UserControl.tag
  24. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    Dunno why they aren't exposed??? Works OK on a test I just did.

    Into a blank form, add a new UserControl and call it UC

    Option Explicit

    Private mUC As UserControl1
  25. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    @jms,

    I know what you mean but it seems to me that you spend too much time designing top-down from the controls that you see in your toolbox. I used to do the same - those of us who are...
  26. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    Ditto that. Though I'd probably have a colllection class that I'd intanciate twice (once each for black and white). The collection class would contain multiple instances of a Piece class and these...
  27. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    @jpbro,

    I can see where you're coming from but since the outcome of a function call is based upon other 'outside' values (Colour, Index) it seems to me that using a global variable isn't entirely...
  28. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    @jms,

    Sorry but I somehow missed the bit about your UC's being control arrays (as you could perhaps tell from my first two posts!). That being the case, I'd (personally) go with the global...
  29. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    I happen to agree with jpbro, for the reasons he mentions - hence my first suggestion was (essentially) the same as his. However, if you do go down the global variable route, be sure to set that...
  30. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    Or you could just use a global variable called gCurrentPiece and set it when in it's the next player's move.

    i.e. Dim gCurrentPiece as ucPiece
    Set gCurrentPiece = ucWPiece

    More than one way...
  31. Re: Using a variable for a control name

    You could use a property (in a module) such as

    Public Property Get CurrentPiece as ucPiece
    If Color = White then
    Set CurrentPiece = ucWPiece
    else
    Set CurrentPiece =...

  35. Re: [RESOLVED] Hangman Game. Can't remove lives correctly.

    @jms

    Perhaps he is not interested in the 'correct' way to do it but, instead, wants to know why it does not work as expected when done his way. You know, for the purpose of learning...

    Yeah, it was me. From a thread you started last year. Anyhow, I played around with it a bit after that thread closed and here is where I got to. It's by no means finished but you are welcome to take...
  37. Re: Problem with un-selecting numbers for keno game(stumped)

    How much did you pay this coder? Cos from what I can tell from your screenshot I wrote that code for another user here some months ago. I've still got the full source code on my machine as I...
