  2. Re: Laptop PC has started turning off unexpectedly

    That's my concern.
  3. Re: Laptop PC has started turning off unexpectedly

Last time I checked - about a year ago I guess - a new battery was around $150, so I didn't want to spend that. Can you recommend a good temp monitor?
  4. Re: Laptop PC has started turning off unexpectedly

Well, I let my laptop run all night and it never shut off. Looks like just cleaning the cooling system did the trick. That saved me a ton of cash on a new laptop, which my wife was advocating that...
  5. Re: Laptop PC has started turning off unexpectedly

I tried that, but my battery pack is integrated with the shell of the laptop - I would loose one of my laptop's feet if I pulled it, and it would leave the HD and something other components exposed.
  6. Re: Laptop PC has started turning off unexpectedly

I checked and indeed the heat sinks were clogged - I gave it a good cleanup and... we'll see how it goes. I may have to look into what dilettante said as well.

  8. Re: Laptop PC has started turning off unexpectedly

The battery is shot for sure. I made the mistake you mentioned above - leaving it plugged in when not on. If I try to boot it without the power cord plugged in, it will try for .5 sec and then give...
  9. Laptop PC has started turning off unexpectedly

I have a Sager laptop that I've had for over 5 years. In the last week it has started turning itself off unexpectedly. You'll just be doing whatever and it suddenly turns off. Last night I...

VS 2015 Re: IIS 7.5 website authentication error

OK. The problem turned out to be that I didn't have windows authentication installed and enabled for IIS. I installed it the other day, but didn't reboot windows afterwards (dumb). Once I enabled...

VS 2015 Re: IIS 7.5 website authentication error

It was as you said - the selected user was not authorized. So I changed to one who was and got two green ticks, but when I restarted the server and browsed the site - alas - same issue.

VS 2015 Re: IIS 7.5 website authentication error

Where exactly would you check for that? I checked the properties of the path where the website is installed in Windows Explorer and didn't see anything that I thought was amiss, but I may be wrong.

VS 2015 IIS 7.5 website authentication error

I have an MVC4 website that runs just fine in vs2015 with IIS express, but now I've tried to deploy it to a local instance of IIS 7.5 and I'm having an issue. I get the following error:

  14. Re: Trying to calculate a set placement for dynamic radio buttons?

That's right. Been coding so much in JavaScript lately that my windows forms knowledge is getting rusty.
  15. Re: Trying to calculate a set placement for dynamic radio buttons?

My guess is that by setting the .Size property you're overriding the .AutoSize property. I'm thinking you might have meant to set the .Position property instead of the .Size property.
  16. VS 2010 Re: Add items to combobox from a datagridview Column values

Are you talking about binding the combobox to the same data source as the datagridview, or simply taking values from the datagridview and adding them to a combobox?
  17. VS 2010 Re: How to create an event for the Custom Header Buttons?

You could always just go into the code and manually add the event handler. Let's say the button is named 'LoginButton'. Then you could add code to the form like this:

    Public Sub...
  18. VS 2010 Re: How to create an event for the Custom Header Buttons?

I would guess that you would just double click on the custom header buttons just like you would any other windows forms control - but I've never worked with them myself so I can't say for sure.
  19. VS 2013 Re: Assigning a variable to a class but it shows as "Nothing"?

You need to show us some code. Let us see how you're instantiating the class and how/where you determine if the variable is nothing.

VS 2010 Re: Removing apostrophe from text string

It's not that surprising. It's just that I've seen so many folks use excel for things other than numbers, or for a mix of text and numbers.

VS 2010 Re: Removing apostrophe from text string

Tried some different cell formats... Excel really doesn't like numbers stored as text. Seems to always squawk about it.

Re: UserControl get instance from another form

If you create a usercontrol and call it, say, 'myUserControl', and then add it to a form, that form will contain an instance of 'myUserControl', not 'usercontrol'. The instance you have of...

VS 2012 A good reference for LINQ and EF

  28. VS 2013 Re: use a my.setting entry as a parameter of a sub/function or class property

    Re: MS Access VB.NET

A data reader is a forward-only data reader used to read the data at high speed. However, it can't be used to bind to a DataGridView. So if you're wanting to bind to a datagridview, you'll need...

Sure, it's possible. You could have the user input a regular expression that allows your app to substitute the values of NAME and AGE. You could also use a roll-your-own scheme, where you have...
  33. VS 2013 Re: ERROR: Parameter ?_1 has no default value. Visual Studio 2013

  36. VS 2012 Re: DataGridView Takes Longer to Bind When Executed Outside of Visual Studio

My only thought - and I'm not trying to be a wise guy or anything like that - is that perhaps the ide and the exe are not pointing to the same datasource to fetch their data. That is, is something...
