  1. VS 2010 Re: What is the difference between these to methods of getting the bytes of a string?

If the string contains a character not represented in ASCII, bytes with values from 0 - 127, then 63(?) is substituted. It is somewhere in the documentation.
  2. Re: Confusion with proper sort method on bindingsource

JMC gave you a great piece of advice. It led me to learn something I knew little about, and the answer to your question was right there.

JMC is brusque, but he he is neither pompous or arrogant. ...
  3. VS 2010 Re: What is the difference between these to methods of getting the bytes of a string?

If they are 63's then check the encoding.
  4. Re: Confusion with proper sort method on bindingsource

I hope you let this go. Some other newbie advice:

Write short pieces of code and test the hell out of it. Seeing 50 lines of code that has 5 errors before where the newbie thinks the error...
  5. Re: Sorting data in a combobox using the underlying data model

Correct, none of us know it all. The MSDN documentation is an acquired taste, one you should develop. If it doesn't make sense the first time read it until it does, or read some other articles. ...
  6. VS 2010 Re: What is the difference between these to methods of getting the bytes of a string?

Are all of the bytes wrong? Are the bytes that are wrong 63?
  7. VS 2013 Re: Call function via name contained in string

Look at CallByName. I think the methods have to be public.

    Re: ASCII preferences?

It will depend on the font, but assuming you have a font that will show the desired character, I prefer not to use chr or chrw unless I have not other choice. Take a look at this:

    Re: Type Characters...

    Type Characters

Since they have been with us since the beginning of .Net and are a part of 2015RC I suspect that they will be with us for a long time. I agree that they are not often used as...
  15. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

If you have a half-duplex connection then there has to be some method for controlling who is transmitting. One method for doing that is to use RTS / CTS but from what I can find out about Modbus...
  16. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

In reading the Modbus spec it indicates that the port is:

    "
    1 start bit
7 data bits, least significant bit sent first
    1 bit for parity completion;
    1 stop bit
    Even parity is required, other...
  17. VS 2010 Re: Connection timesout when running a stored procedure in SQL Server

You might try catching MySqlException's to gather more information, though I agree with techgnome, fix the obvious error.
  18. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

    Is this Modbus?
  19. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

I should have asked before, delay where? What end device are you talking to?
  20. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

Are you saying that other than the first character, the rest of the data is correct?????? Is the first character incorrect every time or just after the port is first opened?
  21. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

What device are you using to connect the RS485 interface (model / mfg.)? Is the terminal emulator generic or for the RS485 device?
  22. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

I agree, but I suspect it is a setting issue, something in the terminal emulator that is different.
  23. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

I have a loopback on my PC which means that what I send I receive. I tested this code and received :'s just fine. Note that I tested this at 115,200 and 9,600 bps with the same results, except that...
  24. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

  25. VS 2013 Re: First character is corrupt when receiving SerialPort data

Pretty sure this is not the code in my signature, though it looks like something I might have done at one time. :) The question is whether or not the first byte is a question mark (63 decimal or 3F...
  26. Re: put ip address in textBox what to add more?

I don't know what you are trying to do. TryParse is the way to go, but be aware that TryParse might parse strings that do not meet your needs. Here is some code. Take a look at the first IP...

  30. VS 2013 Re: I have 1 Small Problem, Do you know how to fix it? :)

Re: Search byte pattern in byte array
