  1. Re: What is the fix for CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls = False?

The easiest way to update controls from non UI threads is this:

    Me.Invoke(Sub()

Re: Get List of SerialPort via VB.Net

The 'problem' is not in the registry. If you install a serial port properly the GetPortNames would've worked and the registry would have an entry. So yes, I think you don't have a serial port.

Re: Facebook messages VB 2008 PLEASE HELP!

FWIW - Facebook has an API if I am not mistaken, so you should use that. The way you are doing this may be in violation of Facebook's TOU / TOS.

You could have just declared them as strings and used them as needed.

Re: Use LINQ to Initialize 2d Array

Is LINQ the best approach here? Best as in clearest, easiest to maintain, and fastest? Just wondering.
  11. Re: Synchronize timer tick to fire once an hour on the hour.

    You are correct.

    Public Class Form1

    Dim alarm As TimeSpan
    Dim stpw As New Stopwatch

Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
    ...
  12. VS 2013 Re: How to write this more compact?

This is confusing. If you are using an enum for the values then US & Metrics should equal 3, not 12. If you can store 3 in the DB then all would be good. BTW - is the field in the DB an integer? ...
  13. Re: Synchronize timer tick to fire once an hour on the hour.

    My $0.02

    Dim stpw As New Stopwatch

Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

  17. VS 2013 Re: Lambda expression to select a subset of an array

List or array, it is up to you.

  18. Re: [RESOLVED] subtracting one-second intervals from a timespan variable?

Here http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?789993-RESOLVED-Super-Simple-Countdown-timer&p=4845569&viewfull=1#post4845569 is an example that does a count down.
  19. Re: [RESOLVED] subtracting one-second intervals from a timespan variable?

Are you aware that this approach is less accurate than others? If this is for short periods it will not matter, or maybe a few seconds is unimportant.
