    Re: 2 in 1

    Take a look at the HP Stream. They seem short on memory, but they come in a variety of different configurations and I haven't looked at them all.

    VS 2013 Re: Tempature Solution

    So you have. Is there a question? If you don't know the equations, Google them.

    By the way, you really should use a NumericUpDown control rather than a textbox. Otherwise, you have to convert...
  4. VS 2012 Re: Beginner, exception in the code, still learning

    That won't work. Double.TryParse returns a Boolean. The proper way to write it would be:

    Dim response As String = Console.Readline

    If Double.TryParse(response, height) Then
    'It was a number...

    Re: Insert and Update

    One odd fact is that you don't have to do this:

    da.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand()
    da.UpdateCommand = cb.GetUpdateCommand()
    da.DeleteCommand = cb.GetDeleteCommand()

    If you were to look...
  6. Re: Results of the annual StackOverflow developer survey

    There may be some anti-MS in there, as well. Of all the languages out there, only VB is truly MS. Technically, C# is only MS, but C# is closely related to C++, which was never MS.
  7. Re: Utilizing drawstrings with slider bars

    You should do all the control drawing in the On Paint event handler for the control. .Invalidate and .Refresh are very similar, but differ in a crucial way. .Invalidate will trigger the...

    Re: Insert and Update

    You're making it too difficult. In the first snippet you created a dataadapter and set insert, update, and delete commands for it. You did more work than you needed to to set that up, but it doesn't...
  9. VS 2013 Re: Object size changes from development environments

    I may have seen something like that happen when moving from a laptop to a Surface, but I never tracked down the cause.

    That's how I feel, too.
  11. Re: Results of the annual StackOverflow developer survey

    I've always thought that the disdain for VB as a language was because groups are often defined by their opposition. I would guess that a lot of developers, being geeks, like being a member of an...

    Re: Post Race!

    The race is running too fast. I was going to quote post #59447, and modify the job to being a male stripper. Interestingly, pretty nearly all of the subsequent posts fit just as well with that job...
  15. VS 2013 Re: HELP!!! System.InvalidOperationException' occurred !!! I can't fix it for 4 hours

    Which formula? If the code is anything like this:

    Private Sub btnCalculate_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles btnCalculate.Click
    intQuantity = CInt(txtQuantity.Text)
    ...
  16. Re: Iterating though a DataTable and updating without "For Each"

    Don't worry about the ByRef part. ANY Datarow variable, typed, untyped, or purely fantastical, will be a reference type. This means that the variable will never hold the actual row, it will only hold...
  17. VS 2012 Re: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

    Reminds me of the blind men and the elephant....and as somebody on here said, "I think I have the trunk."
  18. VS 2010 Re: [RESOLVED] OleDbException Unhandled (No value given for one or more required para

    That's a good rule to follow: Never use a single real word as the name for ANYTHING in programming. Not for field names, not for variables, not for class names. Generally, if you get a variable or...

    Re: Post Race!

  21. VS 2010 Re: OleDbException Unhandled (No value given for one or more required parameters.)

    So, what does the actual code you are using look like now?
  22. VS 2012 Re: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

    Actually, I'd suggest a different answer. After all, I see that instance IS being created, it just isn't being created quite right. You create it in btnNew, which is the right place to create it, but...

    Re: Google Maps pacman

    Yeah, in that fashion, the game probably resembled the University pretty closely.
  24. VS 2010 Re: Syntax Error when connecting to database

    If the Zip Code field is a number, then you can't have single quotes.

    In any case, use parameters. Concatenating user entered text into a query leaves your code open to SQL injection attacks. It...
  25. Re: Iterating though a DataTable and updating without "For Each"

    I don't know a good tutorial for Tasks. I just looked up a few examples, myself. They aren't terribly difficult, since you are basically just running a function. Tasks may or may not run on different...

    Google Maps pacman

    I hadn't heard about this, but I was looking at a town and saw that I could use the pac-man option, so I tried it. That map was a brutal one for pac-man, so I then tried to play using the area around...
  27. Re: Iterating though a DataTable and updating without "For Each"

    Rather than a BGW, you might consider using a Task, which could pass off from one to the next, or you could launch a different task for each item.

    However, if you are going to do a whole bunch,...
  28. Re: How can i pas an extra argument on a button's click event ?

    I guess that's pretty much my view, as well. In my experience, whenever anybody wants to pass an additional argument to an event handler I'd like to know why, because I have never seen it be...
  29. Re: How can i pas an extra argument on a button's click event ?

    While that's true, at that point the handler is really just a method that could be called from anywhere at any time like any other method. It won't do the special thing when the button is clicked,...

    Re: Post Race!

    Especially out of the post race. This is where sharing leaves you anonymous.
  31. Re: How can i pas an extra argument on a button's click event ?

    No, you can't meaningfully change the EventArgs for a button. The button class has a list of methods it has to call when the button is clicked. The click handler method is just an item on the list....
  32. VS 2010 Re: OleDbException Unhandled (No value given for one or more required parameters.)

    Well, yeah, but the query text is malformed. T and P are aliases for the tables, yet you didn't tell the query engine what T and P stand for. It shouldn't work for even one table, so I doubt you...
  33. Re: How can i pas an extra argument on a button's click event ?

    While what TnTinMN said is true, the question makes me think that you are thinking about something wrong. After all, a buttons click event handler is just a method that is called when the button is...

  36. Re: How to update flicker free win forms listbox when check user's status vb.net

    Actually, lots of fruits (such as blackberries with their tiny seeds) also make for chunky style, as do the dried chilis, though those are pureed pretty thoroughly.

    Yeah, that's about it. Really horrible code generally means a beginner, so there is lots of help you can provide. The problem is in doing so without being patronizing, which is doubly hard because...
