  1. Re: Poll 2 Results: Who was the best Star Trek captain?

Well she was killed off early to help Worf develop. The actress did come back later as a female Q though, on Voyager I think.

Brad must be gagging on all of this by now though! ;)
  2. Re: Poll 2 Results: Who was the best Star Trek captain?

Was that the one who ran off with Q? Ahh, no. That was Vash. You meant the Bejoran with the huge chip on her shoulder.

Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

As far as I can remember it's an OLE Structured Storage, a sort of filesystem in a file. But those thumb.db files are only useful when indexed and beginning with Vista the organization of them...
  4. Re: Poll 2 Results: Who was the best Star Trek captain?

While not main characters, I'd probably pick K'Ehleyr (Worf's mate, Alexander Rozhenko's mother) or Anij from Insurrection.
  5. Re: Multi-user implementation using vb6 and ms access

Using Jet or ACE databases on a network share is never going to be "high performance" just because of the large amount of network I/O required. Multiuser access slows things even more due to...
  6. Re: Poll 2 Results: Who was the best Star Trek captain?

But you seem to discount the spiritual powers of the Emissary.

Plus he even got a shot at travelling back in time to meet Kirk at Deep Space Station K7 and prevented the undercover Romulan Arne...
  7. [VB6] UPrinter - Unicode Printer Class

I looked around and didn't find many working samples of this... actually none at all but lots of questions about non-working code snippets. There may be some out there, and better than this basic...
  8. Re: VB6 - WIA "BlendPaint" Demo - comparison with Cairo-Drawing

What I like about the WIA-based approach is that it offers you a lot you couldn't do in plain VB6 for a very little code and effort and with no 3rd party dependencies. We're still talking about...

Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

I would have thought the thumbnail cache would be even easier to get, and that is what I had expected.

While that might be available through another property, all I saw was an alternative much...
  10. Re: Extended file properties unpredictably padded by zeroes

    I've been using ShellFolderItem.ExtendedProperty() calls.

SCID_Image_Dimensions values come back as formatted String (Variant) values for me and they don't have any leading zeros.

    Others like...

Re: Problem with VB Office and VB6 dlls

Have you installed the compiled ActiveX EXE? It sounds like it hasn't been registered. I cringe to think where you may have put the file.

    Re: Digital Forensics

Could be. I'm sure a lot of it involves trying to reconstruct "deleted" files from drives and such so perhaps sector and partial sector copying and trying to relink the pieces into the original...
  13. Re: Inserting picturebox between captionbar and toolbar

Are you sure it does this?

Looks more like they are using some sort of Tab control, not menus.

    Re: Digital Forensics

As far as I know it is a kind of overblown term for extracting information from hard drives and other media. Today it probably goes further into trying to "mine" information about an individual...

Re: [VB6] Shell Drive Free Space

Just tried your version and I saw that. Sorry to be so dull today.
  16. Re: Inserting picturebox between captionbar and toolbar

No idea what that means. I don't see anything like that in Paint.

Are you talking about the ribbon in the goofy version of Paint in Windows 7?

If so you might want to try using the Ribbon...
  17. Re: Inserting picturebox between captionbar and toolbar

PictureBox also has the Align property.

Yeah, it's only been able to do this since 1997 or so. It's covered in the MSDN Library docs that came with VB6.

Re: [VB6] Shell Drive Free Space

True enough, that works fine. The only caveat is that when your disk drive is so big it uses bit 63 you'll have a problem. :p

People can always use alternatives, and the sample you gave may help...

Re: [VB6] Shell Drive Free Space

    Warning:

If you compile this on Vista or Win7 (and probably Win8.x.y) the EXE will not run on XP, and most likely vice versa as well.

Microsoft broke binary compatibility on Shell32 automation...

Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

Well I'm not sure how any automated "thumbnail grabber" is supposed to know what frame you might want. As you can see you often get all-black, all-blue, etc. frames when you browse a folder in...

Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

I'm not really doing it at all, that's sort of the point of this entire thread. ;)

    [VB6] Shell Drive Free Space

  26. Re: Error when trying to print ticket with Windows 7

It isn't reasonable to blame Windows as your first explanation of a problem. Windows 7 is actually quite old now and if it had a flaw causing this it would have been fixed or people would be aware...

    Re: Murdered Out Rims

I don't get it. Why not just wear a 1970s Elton John costume and be done with it all?

I'm also reminded of South Park Season 3 Episode 11: "Chinpokomon"
  28. Re: Poll 2 Results: Who was the best Star Trek captain?

Wow. Picard? The "somebody get that man a cup of coffee" Captain?

Of course he was somewhat less somnambulant after the first season. Maybe some people really like his flute playing?

Re: Get color information the easy way?

Why not just use Word for this?

You can create template documents, then open a new document based on those or mail merge from a data source as required, etc.
