  1. Re: Flat file database and the number of records per file.

I'm not advocating it - I am answering the OP's question.

They didn't give us a reason - just said it cannot be based on SQL.
  2. Re: Flat file database and the number of records per file.

Increasing the number of files does not make things simpler.

All data in one file - each time you get a new record put it at the end.

You DO need another file for the INDEX to this data - let's...

Re: Thoughts - drainage ditch detection

If the pipe is grounded you can just use a thin metal rod - divining rod style.

I've had the CALL-BEFORE-YOU-DIG people do that to find both the electric and water lines in my yard.
  4. Re: Insanely incredible things read on the interwebtubenets today.

The moon is in a tidal lock with the earth - it's basically egg shaped and we have the heavy end always facing us.

Now that is the ultimate high tide!

  19. Re: How to create secure connection with online database?

That webservice would run on port 443 / HTTPS / SSL and all that good stuff and the encryption is taken care of for you (from my understanding).
  20. Re: [RESOLVED] Lots of SQL connections / interactions inside a loop (needs improvemen

That's all noble and all but you have to be consistent. As in supply a method that takes a LIST() object and processes a ton of SPROC calls.

  21. Re: Lots of SQL connections / interactions inside a loop (needs improvement)

As I said you can re-use a parameter. You are making a NEW parameter inside the loop.

I have no idea what the overhead of doing that is.
  22. Re: Lots of SQL connections / interactions inside a loop (needs improvement)

Seems to me you have to create a property on the class that returns an connection to be open - or pass all your loops stuff as a list into the class.
  23. Re: Lots of SQL connections / interactions inside a loop (needs improvement)

Where is the class looping the connection??

You want to open the connection outside the loop and simply use that open connection.

You can reuse the parameters - make then one outside the loop...

I'm a bit of a radical when it comes to business logic.
