    Re: vb6 and win 7

What method are you using to print?
Do you have the correct printer drivers installed?

If attached via com port are you sure your port settings match those of the printer. That is the most common...

  3. Re: How to save the text of a textbox ( Newbie )

Thanks, just turning off that news page made a very noticeable difference. I use a pretty fast PC 3.2ghzx4 with 4gb ram and 20mb internet connection running XP and VS2008 Pro on this system.
  4. Re: How to save the text of a textbox ( Newbie )

    Yet this code

    MsgBox 5 Mod 3
Would work in VB.Net as well, it would just add the ()s to it

    MsgBox(5 Mod 3)

Care to share some of those settings? One of my biggest issues with VB.Net is...

    Re: If Then statements

Well looking at that last full piece of code you posted it would appear that the entire select case at the top is pretty much useless.
I say that because you are placing a value in a text box but...
  6. Re: Creating an ESTIMATE or INVOICE where to start?

I may be spoiled with Active Reports :)

It is so much quicker and easier than using any other method I have tried. It integrates with the IDE and allows you to write code for your report just like...
  7. Re: How to save the text of a textbox ( Newbie )

    ??

I take that to mean that you think that VB.Net is not a rapid development tool? It is you know. I have used both quite a lot and while I am still more familiar with VB6 there are several things...

    Re: If Then statements

    From here

    Case Is = 9
    txtCommission.Text = Val(txtSales.Text) * 0.0009
    Case Is = 8
    txtCommission.Text = Val(txtSales.Text) * 0.0008

    9 / 10000 = .0009
    8/10000=.0008
  9. Re: [RESOLVED] Run-Time Error '3021' No Current Record Found

I remember working with some large tables in VB5 and using the .MoveLast and .Recordcount to set the max value of a progress bar before looping through the data. I do not recall having saw any issues...

    Re: If Then statements

Like I said I think it is the procedure code now that has a 64k limit and since that is the source code any comments within would be part of that overall size.

Of course there has never been any...

Ahh... found another section. That code above was replaced in the project by another routine, not sure why but the jist of what you need is here

    Re: DAO idiosyncrasies

Here is a function from one of my old programs done in VB5 using DAO. This function was used to retrieve a property value if it existed and create a property with the passed default value if it did...

Again it has been a long time since I used ado but if memory serves the Field has a properties collection and that properties collection may have a properties collection.

    Re: DAO idiosyncrasies

I have several projects that use DAO as well, fortunately I have not had to modify them in years. I would rather they be ADO but some of them are pretty large and would be a big effort to as you say...

    Re: If Then statements

There is still a 64k limit but I think it now applies to a procedure rather than a module. This would be the uncompiled limit though so the comments would count toward that as far as I know.

    I was...

    Re: DAO idiosyncrasies

You can get to the description of the fields in an MDB using DAO no problem. You can even add your own properties if you like. Once upon a time I thought that would be a good idea to use as many of...

  19. Re: Run-Time Error '3021' No Current Record Found

I had an issue once using DAO in VB5 on an Access DB where the .MoveLast triggered an error message something like "Statement to complex to process"

It took a bit to find the root of the problem,...

    Re: If Then statements

I would advise against developing the habit of not using the .Text property. While I have been told the code runs slightly faster when using the default property [never checked it myself to confirm]...
  21. Re: Run-Time Error '3021' No Current Record Found

Yes, .Recordcount will return -1 in cases where recordcount is not supported. I can't remember if this is the case with DAO but ADO will return -1 when using a server side cursor no matter how many...
  22. Re: Run-Time Error '3021' No Current Record Found

I do not think the presence of or absence of indexes/primary keys would have any effect either.

They will of course make your queries faster when using criteria that is indexed but as far as...

    Re: If Then statements

That block of select case could be shortened up a bit and simplified to just

    Else

  25. Re: unexpected error number 429 has occured.ActiveX component cant create object

  26. Re: Printing Manager Program Problems

You probably need to put the printer name in quotes when it has a space in it.

btw That is VB.Net code and belongs in the VB.Net section
  27. Re: Creating an ESTIMATE or INVOICE where to start?

I do not use the Word nor Excel for such things as that requires the user have MS Office installed on the system and of course is slower and uses more resources than just doing it in VB.

Re: How to create a TextBox array ?

Or place a text box on your form, set the Index property to 0 and then load the rest at runtime using the Load method in a loop.

1000 textboxes sounds like far to many to have on a form though. A...

    Re: Winsock Control problems

You don't want to install the update, you want to install service pack 6

When you installed VB6 did you run the install as admin? If not then you may want to try that.

  36. Re: Need Help : Mdi Child (Maximized Resize)

That is the way MDI forms work.

One option is to resize/position the form through code to where it fills the MDI window without being maximized if you really need it to be that way.

  38. Re: How to detect when a device/cable is plugged or unplugged when using MSCOMM contr
