  1. VS 2010 Re: iF...ELSEIF vs SELECT CASE would make a difference in retrieving rows into datagr

Are those lists of values fixed? If so I'd recommend populating them when the form is created. There's no point in populating them more than once.

I can't see anything obvious in there that...

    Re: Post Race!

Yeah, but some of his puns are just bear faced cheek.

Don't get me wrong, I'd probably hate the reality. I just want to be able to tell more interesting stories.

Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

That's been my most commonly used technique although sometimes I only partially apply it:D

I agree with a lot of the rest of what you've said but I don't think I'd limit it to a criticism of VB6. ...

    Re: Post Race!

You know, there's times I'd love to live in the US where you've got wide open stretches of wilderness to gallivant in.

    Yesterday I startled a cat.

Somehow your anecdotes are better than mine.
  6. VS 2010 Re: iF...ELSEIF vs SELECT CASE would make a difference in retrieving rows into datagr

Put a break point in your code. You do this by selecting a line of code, right clicking and then you should see an option that says Set Breakpoint. Now press f5 and your code will run until it hits...

I'm afraid we don't allow advertising on the forum. I've removed your link.
  9. Re: Microsoft subscription nightmare. It starts. $9.99 per year for solitaire

Oh sure. You think that you're the exception. ;)

Advertising works on ALL of us. If you are immune to advertising you are also a dysfunctional mess or you have a level of deductive reasoning...

Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

One slightly worrying thing I'm getting (possibly incorrectly) from your replies is that it sounds like your screens are closely tied to your functions. I.e. there one screen and only one screen for...
  11. VS 2010 Re: iF...ELSEIF vs SELECT CASE would make a difference in retrieving rows into datagr

Yep, this is definitely the aproach I'd take. The only thing to add is that it doesn't have to be in a sproc, you can use exactly the same technique building up a direct sql query. Just include the...

I've seen photos of you with a beard. You could comfortably sidle your way right up to a bear without him thinking you were out of place. He'd probably introduce you to his sister.:p

  13. Re: Microsoft subscription nightmare. It starts. $9.99 per year for solitaire

Apologies in advance because I'm about to break out my tin foil hat and get a bit "the aliens are listening to my thoughts, man, and the NSA are in on it"

I don't think the downside of advertising...

Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

As in, you want different classes of users to feel like they're using a comlpetely different app, albeit one that shares the same database and business logic layer.

    E.g. I worked on a marketting...

VS 2010 Re: problem in execution

That is odd. You should get the same behaviour either way.

It's possible that the code that's actually running is not the same as the code in your visual studio window. Try doing a clean and...

Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

I think this is a bigger point than just VB. Maybe it's just me but I seem to be noticing a general trend toward imprecision in languages and I don't like it. In my last contract I worked in Python...

VS 2010 Re: get the time of execution of exe

Well I made my post before I'd had my morning cup of tea so appearing sarcastic was a very real risk:D

Depending on what the OP's trying to achieve, this might well be a better answer than mine. ...

VS 2013 Re: Crash Visual Studio 2013

I'd have thought that reinstalling Visual Studio is more likely to fix it but reinstalling both the framework and the ide couldn't do any harm. It sounds like something is corrupted somewhere in...
  20. VS 2010 Re: iF...ELSEIF vs SELECT CASE would make a difference in retrieving rows into datagr

TG is right. By posting a word doc you do yourself no favours because many of us, myself included, won't download it. 1. we may not have a suitable app to open it and, more importantly, 2. it may...
  21. Re: Microsoft subscription nightmare. It starts. $9.99 per year for solitaire

If you're not the one paying then you're not the customer, you're the product.

While I might rail aganst the subscription model I find the free to play model far more insidious, mainly because...

VS 2010 Re: get the time of execution of exe

To get the current time you just use DateTime.Now().

You can use it in the initialisation and termination code of your application and, presumably, save the result somewhere.

Are you actually clicking on the button yourself or have you automated the click? If you've automated the cilck the sequence of events may not be the same as EdgeMeal described in post 14.

    I've removed your code.
  29. Re: Prevent two users from opening same vb6 project

It can be (sort of) done but it most certainly shouldn't be done. There are plenty of free source control packages out there that will do this for you.

Actually, as long as you've got sufficient...

Re: What if there was a NEW vb6

I'm afraid I disagree on both points.

I think c# may have been "VB.Net that developers could tolerate" 10-15 years ago but the perception has moved on hugely since. C# seems widely respected in...
  32. Re: Visual basic program can type in minecraft chat?

  36. Re: Microsoft subscription nightmare. It starts. $9.99 per year for solitaire

Don't joke. That's the sort of thing the anti-monopoly actions that were brought against MS in the 90s could have lead to in the end. If a browser's not part of the operating system then it's...

    Re: Constructor style preference

That's a good point I hadn't considered. If this class is abstracting an iDuncansClass then I'd go with the second constructor (you'd have to because the first exposes an iDuncansClass).
