Re: Some challenges related to databases

All that "sa" is a standard login that has been around in MS SQL for decades. It's generally bad practice to even have this USERNAME turned on anymore - most DBA's simply disable it.

    I believe...

Re: Trying to ftp my project with FileZilla

You might have to install IIS yourself on the GoDaddy server - I cannot recall. Maybe it's a FEATURE you ENABLE in the SERVER setup.

Once you do that you will get a folder that you can add things...

Re: Trying to ftp my project with FileZilla

I use GoDaddy - they offer MS SQL and ASP.Net (IIS).

I went for a virtual server - so I can RDP into it and work it more naturally then through some web portal.
  4. Re: Do you use SESSION state - if not do you turn it off?

Yes - you get an APPLICATION END event - where I post all my APPLICATION data to a text file. And then on the APPLICATION START event I re-load the APPLICATION data from the text file. This has...

Did you put /default.aspx in the URL when you browsed to the site?

  6. Re: Do you use SESSION state - if not do you turn it off?

I really like making my own web services and using straight Ajax and jQuery to build and fill the DOM.

All my backend web services are generic - all the binding happens in the JavaScript.

    I...

    Re: Database

SQL Express with Tools is what you want.

LocalDB is limited in how it works - and unless you specifically need and understand those limitations it shouldn't be used.
  8. Re: Do you use SESSION state - if not do you turn it off?

Does that mean you up'd the SESSION timeout to 30 minutes?

Is that data specific to the user? Any of it shared?

If any of it is shared you can consider APPLICATION.

Even if some of it's not...
  9. Re: Do you use SESSION state - if not do you turn it off?

I've never had a report of the APPLICATION_END event not running at any of my client sites. That would cause all users of that site to lose GUID's and force them all to re-login.

    I would have...

VS 2015 Re: WFA or WPF?

I've been doing versions of BASIC since 1980 and when I started WPF that is when I first learned C#. Most samples and books for WPF do seem to be C-oriented.

    Good luck!

VS 2015 Re: WFA or WPF?

I believe the OP wants to tinker with making a game.

I see no barriers in XAML and WPF that would prevent that.

To get into WPF I did have to purchase a book - and force myself though several...

  13. Re: Do you use SESSION state - if not do you turn it off?

I have used SESSION in the past - when I created more standard ASP.Net pages with POSTBACK's and what not.

In my latest application - more of a AJAX/jQuery web app - I never used SESSION instead...
  14. Re: Do you use SESSION state - if not do you turn it off?

I was speaking about web service logging, actually.'

What type of logging do you do in your web services?

How do you make sure that you have a valid person on the other side of your web service...

You should explore WPF before you jump.

Re: Some challenges related to databases

Ok - that is what I thought.

You do NOT have a web server - it's just a server on the web. With a public IP address.

Sounds like you have a GoDaddy server. I have one - mine is virtual server...

Re: Some challenges related to databases

What do you mean by "on a web server"? Is this a server you have running an actual server O/S?

Are you connecting to the remote instance of the database using SQL Server Management studio?
