  1. Re: Can VB.net Express connect to SQL Server Express

Do you want to use LOCALDB?

I thought you wanted to connect to a "server instance" of MS SQL server?
  2. Re: [RESOLVED] Javascript driving me nuts: Format date returned by FilessystemObject.

Just so you know - JS does not have a DATE data type at all. NEW DATE is making a DATE object. That object has methods for working with dates.

These are the data types that JavaScript has:...

    Re: foreign keys

There is a cost to having FK's that should be taken into account - it's worth mentioning.

Let's assume, for sake of argument, that an INSERT into a table "costs" a single I/O. And along that same...
  14. Re: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation

Do not us IN with the SUB-QUERY

Instead try a FROM (DERIVED-QUERY) and in the DERIVED-QUERY put just the:

where rendate between @from and @to

Only that part of the WHERE clause goes into the...

    Re: foreign keys

@tg - when I do/did use FK's it was actually to protect the parent record from deletion in cases where child records are still existing.
  18. Re: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation

    Good point!

Wiki actually has a great link on "sargable" (although brief).

  22. Re: Question about IDE behavior with unhandled error

I am doing C++ right now (from VB.Net) and I can cause some pretty serious memory errors and VS still stops at the line of code - or at least the function call location.
  23. Re: Anyone tried to implement an UNDO feateure using serialization?

VS 2013 Re: sqlbulkcopy help using vb.net

  32. Re: How to kill/cancel/stop a thread that I start?

You are probably correct - and it's easy enough for the OP to see if the added check (and sync lock) adds too much to the loop wall-clock time.
  33. Re: How to kill/cancel/stop a thread that I start?

And if you do have a LOOP there is no reason to check the flag of each iteration - do it every 1000 loops or 10,000 loops - whatever is reasonable "wall-clock" time wise (every 2 seconds - every 5...

Re: Should I study Accounting/AIS or MIS?

In 30 years of coding I recall using calculus only once - some kind of formula for an array with an identity line (diagonal) - basically 50% of an array cut along the diagonal.
  35. Re: How to kill/cancel/stop a thread that I start?

Usually the thread - which is doing something intensive - such as looping tightly, will look at some Boolean that is in the main code - that Boolean set to TRUE to CANCEL the thread. That way the...
