On the other hand, getting agreement on a trade deal in the EU is enormously difficult as any one country can block it if it doesn't like it (see recent example:...
-
I certainly agree with you regarding the Single Market, I am yet to here of a coherent economic argument against it. The reasoning is political; firstly so we can have more control of immigration and...

Hardly "Hayekian" economics, and we've hardly abandoned "Keyesnian" economics since we haven't stopped running a budget deficit despite our supposed "austerity". That's a myth anyway, Keynesian...

I'm curious to exactly what you mean by this statement.
1) Which ideology are we being driven through?
2) By what measure are we 'poorer than ever'?

I don't like the tories, certainly not the May led administration we've got but I definitely see it as a lesser evil than the Social dystopia promised by the Cobynites.

Interesting running across this post that I made 13 years ago about how we might look back on the invasion of Iraq.
The campaign itself to Topple Sadam went pretty quickly it has to be said. But...

I think May should have gone after the election but instead she's hanging on like a lame duck, but maybe that's because they don't have anyone to replace her with.
My worry now is that the tories...

Looks like I dropped in too late for this thread's 17th birthday. Oh well, maybe next year.

Yes, I realise there is no code to add ribbon items but I need the routine to actually be invoked before I add them and it currently isn't. The article suggests that merely by implementing the...

I am using VS2015 and trying to create an outlook addin to add custom context menu items (when a user right-clicks on a mail item for instance). I have read this article:

The advantage of Val() though is that you can chuck anything at it (nearly) and get a number at the end without errors, even NULLs. In my case, I had a variant. A limitation with VB6 is you have no...

Okay, that explains it.
Thanks.

We all know that in vb6, boolean values are True = -1 and false = 0.
But if you wrap a boolean value in a Val function, it always returns 0, whatever it's original value.
Val(-1) = -1.

Yeah, I've ended up doing that already! That's far more programatically interactive.

I am using a DataGridView but not using XP visual styles.

No update from me. I've simply had to target framework 2.0 for now until I can find a solution. :(
-
No. No unmanaged code that I am aware of.

We're getting this error on a variety of different machines with different operating systems.
One way to generate this error fairly regularly is just to alt-tab to and from the application....
-
This error is still occurring, desipte having global exception handling. It just crashes out and writes the above errors to the event log.
Now we've upgraded another of our projects to .NET 4 and...
-
No, I haven't...but I will try that, thank you. I'm not sure that it will work though because the user is just getting a windows message that the application has "stopped working" and it just closes....
-
We recently upgraded VS 2005 to VS2010 and converted an application seemingly without any problems. But when deployed to the customer they are getting intermittent errors at seemingly random places...

Hi,
I have a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn in a DataGridView control that is bound to a collection of objects and I need some values to be be flagged as inactive in that if a row contains a value...

Can you recommend a good reporting engine that does? ;)
-
I think you misunderstand my requirement. The schema will change everytime (potentially) the user prints the report.
What I'm trying to do is generate a report from the contents of a list view...

I see an example of how to create a crystal report dynamically from an SQL string. But the problem I have is that the data does not exist in the database, only in an ADO.NET data table. I suppose I...
-
Is it possible to create crystal reports in vb.net programatically at run time? There will be no typed dataset because I don't know what fields will need to be in it until the user clicks "Print".

I see the DataGridView control has a property "AllowUserToAddRows" that I can turn on or off but what if I want the ability to be context dependent.
i.e. I want an event that will fire when the...

Hi all,
Does anybody have a way of registering a COM DLL on a 64 bit operating system in code?
I would like to do it in such a way so I can tell whether or not the registration was successful...

To help further elucidate my problem, take a look at this SQL:
SELECT sl.name AS SystemLoginName, sp.loginame AS ProcessLoginName
FROM master..syslogins sl
RIGHT JOIN master..sysprocesses sp ON...
-
No, that simply returns 'dbo'.
-
I'm totally stumped on this one. It's not as easy as it first sounds.
SELECT SYSTEM_USER;
The above returns login name but the problem is when an SQL login uses windows authentication and is...

I've got a toolstrip with five buttons on it, all code behind them is the same so implemented on the base form. I just need to add some additional buttons (sometimes) on an inherited form. Having to...
-
What is the point of having a container in the base form if you can't add items to it in the inherited form?
-
I have a base form with a toolstrip container and one toolstrip on it with five buttons.
When I inherit from this form I can't see the toolstrip container, the toolstrip or the buttons. They...

Actually, it transpires that a reboot sorted it out!
Looks like sometimes the old remedies are the best! :thumb:
-
I'm worried though that even if's ok afterwards on my machine that no one else will be able to open it after me (who haven't installed VS2010)...
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to see...
-
I didn't make myself clear. I'm attempting to open a 2005 project in 2005 IDE. It still asks me to convert! Ever since installing VS2010 anyway...
-
I've just installed VS 2010 beta 2 on my machine and now I can't open up any vs2005 projects (in vs2005 IDE) without it coming up with the conversion wizard saying that this project was created in an...

I've tried doing a rebuild, but with the same result.
I've also tried changing the GUID's of the original class but again with no beneficial result.
I'm at a loss for what to try. Does anyone...
