Re: i need to improve aplication.inputbox

It would appear to be an Excel Macro which of course belongs in the Office section rather than in the Visual Basic section.

Re: Where is the VB6 Student Edition?

But that is not really running under Linux now is it? It is an emulator. I can run Andriod apps on windows if I use an emulator, I can run arcade games, console games, CE apps WM apps and so on all...
  3. Re: Finding a substring in a Word document

You can't search for anything more than what you expect to find. If you search for the months strung together then it will only match if it finds those same exact characters in that order, all of...

Re: Where is the VB6 Student Edition?

Student edition was only available to students and is not legal to use for other purposes.

VB6 does not create apps for mac nor linux so perhaps he should be looking at something else.
  5. Re: Finding a substring in a Word document

Well in your case that does not work you are searching for ARYOh if it doesn't work then that is probably because that text does not exist in the document.
In the previous case where you said it...

Re: Finding text files on a directory.

Well just to be clear you will get the performance gain in all cases where it applies it is just that in most programs that gain will not be noticeable since the function is not being called 1000s or...

Re: Compiler Error : Argument Not Optional

I am assuming that rs.move was meant to be rs.movefirst but if that is the case there is no reason for it and it should be removed.
  8. Re: Error no: 484 Problem getting printer information from the system. in VB 6 app

If the combo is displayed to the user who is using a workstation then that list of available printers would be those available to the workstation. If this is saved in a config file that is on the...
  9. Re: need help with adding data to a table from a user form

The mention of User Form in the title told me that it was VBA so I did not bother to chime in.
I haven't read the thread in detail but it kinda seems like all that is needed is an autonumber field?
  10. Re: Error no: 484 Problem getting printer information from the system. in VB 6 app

The question remains how are you selecting which printer to use?
When your program is ran from a workstation even though it is on the server it would be using the workstation where the printers...

Re: Finding text files on a directory.

Another option is the file list box, just set the path and the pattern, DIR$() is faster File List is more simple.
  12. Re: Making my codwe shorter and Easier to read and Write

If it is for VB.Net then it should not be using ADODB at all.

It should be using ADO.Net and should be using the .addwithvalue() method for adding the parameters, much shorter and easier to read.
  13. Re: Error no: 484 Problem getting printer information from the system. in VB 6 app

So you are executing the app on the server from the workstation?
How are you selecting which printer to use?
  14. Re: Can I copy all properties from one control to another in s single statement?

I may have been mistaken in my previous posts. I thought that I had accessed the properties collection for a control in VB but maybe not. I know I have did so with the property collection of the...
  15. Re: [RESOLVED] variable not defined at Make time, but OK in IDE

I don't do a lot on big projects either. I do have one that I modify from time to time that has been growing for a bit over 10 years now. Takes a little while to do a full compile on it. If I were to...
  16. Re: [RESOLVED] variable not defined at Make time, but OK in IDE

I rarely use the start with full compile option simply because I do not like to wait the extra little bit. In small projects it is really not enough to notice but on some larger projects it can eat...
  17. Re: [RESOLVED] variable not defined at Make time, but OK in IDE

Typically the reason you would get an error like this when you try to compile and not when running in the IDE is that that block of code was not executed when you ran the program in the IDE. If you...
  18. Re: Can I copy all properties from one control to another in s single statement?

Yep but that is not what the OP was asking. It would appear that he wants to copy the properties from one control to another at run time using code.

A for each loop would do the trick, 3 lines of...
  19. Re: need help with adding data to a table from a user form

CTRL-P ??? That pulls up the print project dialog ;)

    I think you meant CTRL-V
  20. Re: Can I copy all properties from one control to another in s single statement?

No, You can use a for each loop to copy all the properties
  21. Re: VB6=>VBA OR VB.Net =>VBA -> Which one best ?? Why COM still exits??

Ain't that the truth. I remember when I was in school I could watch a movie and if I enjoyed it 6 months later I could give you a very clear summary of the movie including a good bit of the dialog....

    Re: Moving Shapes With Timers!

You should also not be using 1 as a timer interval. Timers are not nearly that fast nor accurate.

Edit: Just noticed that was pointed out above so never mind ;)
  23. Re: Need help : random system password each day?

My company actually did some software that uses the date as part of the password. It was for in house use only and needed to be secure. We could give the password to an employee so they could use the...
  24. Re: Code for program to re-structure itself?!

To answer the original question yes it could be done. It would not be easy and you would need to know machine language to pull it off. Most likely far to much effort to be worthwhile even if you are...

Re: Waiting until called form is unloaded

I would advise against using that looping method.
A timer on form1 that gets enabled as form2 unloads would be much better.
  26. Re: Tip: Getting XP Related Microsoft Downloads

I still have not been able to get sound to work properly on Win9x in a VM
  27. Re: Tip: Getting XP Related Microsoft Downloads

    Good to know.

When I decided to move my old XP development machine to a VM I used a utility to clone it. First I used Ghost to make an image and then I used VMWare VCenter converter. Was much...
  28. Re: How to display a dialog printer before displaying a datareport

Also note that if you always want to use the printer named generalprinter then you can do that in code without using a dialog at all.

    Set Printer = Printers("GeneralPrinter")

    You would want...
  29. Re: How to display a dialog printer before displaying a datareport

Assuming that you do not want to set the default printer then you should be able to do this by setting the printer object in your program. Before you open the report.

You have the first part with...
  30. Re: MsComm1 stopped working on all programs

I would suspect that the settings have changed either on the device or for your program.

Com port stuff is pretty simple and if it worked before it should still work provided all the settings are...
  31. Re: VB6=>VBA OR VB.Net =>VBA -> Which one best ?? Why COM still exits??

Well I am self taught but never touch a main frame, started on an old 64C and then moved to an old XT and GW Basic before moving to VB Dos and then VB.

That would not make sense. VB "Classic"...
  32. Re: virtual printer Thermal Printer Help

If you are using printer specific control codes then you will need a printer that supports those control codes to see if everything is right.
If you are not using specific control codes and are...
  33. Re: VB6=>VBA OR VB.Net =>VBA -> Which one best ?? Why COM still exits??

Obviously someone does not like .Net ;)

To say that those who have adopted .Net are gullible though shows a serious bias and lack of clear thought on the subject.

As with all languages it has...
  34. Re: [RESOLVED] how to show reg value in the textbox in vb

Apparently you did not understand. I was saying that when you make a vague post like "it didn't work" or "I tried it" it means very little to nothing at all to anyone but you. What you want to do...
  35. Re: Strange Behaviour in Format function while using Hex function in VB4

is txtstr dimmed as a string?
Why 3 0s hex values are even number of characters so 3 is strange. Unless of course you are trying to pad 3 0s in which case you need to add a 4th as 1 or more will be...
  36. Re: how to show reg value in the textbox in vb

In future be sure to show what you tried and state what problem you are having.
    Statements like this

Do not help us to help you as that could mean almost anything. Be clear, be detailed and show...
  37. Re: how to show reg value in the textbox in vb

Look at the line that reads the reg. There is something there that you do not want, just remove the extra bit and you should be fine.
  38. Re: [RESOLVED] Why is reading a File in chunks quicker than in one go?

vbBinaryCompare is the default so you did not really change anything ;)

    Yes
Have a look at the MkDir() and FileCopy statements
  40. Re: Visual Basic6 and Visual Basic for Applications

If you look at the references when you create a new VB project you will see that one of those references is VBA. VBA contains a lot [most] of the Basic language. VB6 is much more than VBA though.
