  1. Re: Interesting read on MS tech direction, Modern, WPF, XAML

I think Developers - Microsoft Is Back! is both broader and more objective on BUILD and Win 8.1 Up1's impact (as the current Windows product).

    Re: Window 8

Yeah, during the Win8 mass rearrangement of deck chairs they renamed it File Explorer and re-boned the toolbar.

Win8 File:Windows Explorer Ribbon.png shows Search tucked among the gingerbread.

Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

True, though in this case the machine I was programming on happens to have ffdshow installed. It isn't used for video transcoding, which I do on a Windows Home Server machine.

    The point was that...
  4. Re: Memory Upgrade to Use Win7 is causes Machine to be Unstable.

The new RAM may be out of spec for the board, i.e. just on the edge of too fast for the memory controller used. Maybe PC100 RAM would work reliably but not PC133 or perhaps one of the other more...

Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

In case it helps, here is the result when proper codecs are available (I allowed the use of ffdshow this time):

Re: [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

Hmm, it also seems to be able to retrieve thumbnail (album art) from many WMA and MP3 audio files as well. Not all, since many times you don't have this embedded.

    I'm not getting any JPEG...

    Re: Southern California Earthquakes

I don't know.. doesn't California tend to get overrun by radioactive giants and such too? Or was that just in the 1950s?

  8. Re: Take A screenshot every x minutes and upload to ftp

I don't know, looking at your posts I see questions about killing processes, grabbing driver information, and now posting screenshots to some host.

What kind of malware is this?
  9. Re: Parse cell contents into several columns

VBA questions belong in the Office forum.

This forum is for the classic VB language used to create aplications rather than write Office macros.

    [VB6] Shell Video Thumbnail Images

    Summary

Thumbnail images for video files are accessible via Shell32's Automation (i.e. ActiveX) interface.

These can be obtained using a ShellFolderItem object's ExtendedProperty() method. The...

    Re: Web Site Populate Help

Whether web scraping a site is permitted or not is spelled out in two things: the site's terms of service/use and the site's robots.txt file.

The site linked above doesn't have an explicit...
  12. Re: Registering for keyboard events in vb6

If you must intercept all keystrokes including those when your Form doesn't have focus then it probably...
  13. Re: Parsing for field does not work for values ending 0

That isn't "standard Mid" but the odd version that returns a Variant.

It sounds like this is VBScript and not VB, and so you have posted in the wrong forum in the first place.
  14. Re: One question poll - What does Star Trek have to do programming?

Nope. Just an Internet connection and a search engine.
  15. Re: One question poll - What does Star Trek have to do programming?

The poll doesn't mention which universe.

The main time line from TOS, TNG, etc.? The Mirror Universe of TOS and DS9? The anti-matter universe from TOS? The manifold quantum universes from TNG...
  16. Re: Setting a variable to a control doesn't transfer the .Tag property

Using VBControlExtender gives you early-bound access to members of that interface, which is what you need to to see your "hover info."

However this also points out why using a property like Tag...
  17. Re: Setting a variable to a control doesn't transfer the .Tag property

See diagram 9.6 in Understanding the Container’s Extender Object.

While As Variant will work, As Object is more proper.

And of course something like this will pick up the secondary interface as...
  18. Re: Type libraries: Possible to have PROPVARIANT in a typelib vb6 can use?

This appears in propidl.idl from the Windows SDK, so it must be valid IDL, but perhaps unacceptable as ODL.

MkTypLib is obsolete, and you normally use the MIDL compiler now. This does have a...
  19. Re: Type libraries: Possible to have PROPVARIANT in a typelib vb6 can use?

As far as I can tell this is just a more complete definition of a VB6 Variant, with subtypes that VB6 does not support.

There are "quick hacks" you can use to convert some of them, e.g.:

    Re: Auto increment Alphanumeric

    Private Value As Long

    Public Prefix As String

  23. Re: How to fix an item to a panel

Re: Sort Data in ListBox (VB6)

Well we have probably over analyzed and over engineered this by now.

For most cases where a ListView makes sense you may as well just stick with the linear search and insert approach. I have...

  27. Re: One Question Poll / Survey - The results?

Perhaps the results don't support the polemic. They've all been violently biased toward .Net, at least in recent times.

Re: Variant Array vs Integer Array

All of those values seem to be in the 0 to 255 range, so why do you need an Integer array?

Re: Sort Data in ListBox (VB6)

If we set aside the issues of duplicate entries, ItemData, and "stable" insertion ordering we can simplify the code a bit.

If we want somewhat faster code we can use a binary search instead of a...

  37. Re: [VB6] - how mask the textbox?

Better to fix it than to try to code up an alternative. This may be a sign that a lot more is wrong with your VB6 installation as well.
