    VS 2013 Re: Proper Multi-Threading

    Actually, this method would leave the UI somewhat responsive whereas doing it purely on the UI thread would leave the UI unresponsive. Still, I agree this is not very efficient. Its almost never a...

    Re: Understanding Multi-Threading in VB.Net

    Well it depends. If you want some thread to indicate when its finished doing something, you can have the object raise an event signalling that its finished. If you want different threads within the...

    Re: C++ DLL to VB6

    You have to declare the functions exported by the DLL in your VB6 application. For example:-

    int EXPORT_API usb_relay_device_get_status(int hHandle, unsigned int *status);

    The above should look...

    Re: Building/Using ActiveX VB6 VB.Net C#

    COM Interop in my opinion is good only to spice up old VB6 apps with functionality that is either much easier to write in VB.Net or simply not worth to effort to attempt in VB6. In my case, I've used...

    Re: Building/Using ActiveX VB6 VB.Net C#

    I've tested this and while it technically works, a lot of things malfunction when you use an ActiveX control written in VB6 within a VB.Net application. And though VB.Net can author COM classes, I...

    Re: How to run a application using other computer

    Well technically, its incorrect. In DOS, when a process ends, part of the deal is marking the memory the process' code was using as free. By calling a certain DOS API, you can in fact keep DOS from...

    Well, I'd take it to mean the modern equivalent like a Windows Service or just a regular app with its Form hidden. TSRs were the only way to run multiple processes in those days. Modern OSes do this...

    This would certainly make the adder component of the CPU a little more complicated.
  34. Re: How to make VB.NET Garbage Collector Example?

    ThreadPool threads are also background threads by default. As a matter of fact this is what a BackgroundWorker uses. You can change this from within the thread itself.
  35. Re: How to make VB.NET Garbage Collector Example?

    If you're certain of this then it could only mean you have another foreground thread running somewhere. A VB.Net application only terminates when all foreground threads have exited.

  37. Re: How to make VB.NET Garbage Collector Example?

    If your app is not closing when it should, that means that a foreground thread is still executing. Now you said you used a BGW which creates background threads by default so that is not the culprit....
