    If you have a VB6 background you can almost try the string comparison functions used in VB6 in your SQL statements against an Access database. :)

    StrComp might be what you are looking for, try this (handcoded):

    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM [User] WHERE StrComp([Username],@user,0) = 0 AND StrComp([Password],@pass,0) = 0

    Yes, its fine to install the software on a computer where there is no SQL Server installed, what you have to do is to point your connectionstring to that computer where the SQL Server is installed.

    The norm in ADO.Net is to open as late and close as early as possible, if you area leaving your connections open until you close your app then something might be wrong in your current design. :)

    It should remain floating (topmost) no matter what window is in focus, is this something that can be done with web or should I just use VB.Net or something to accomplish this one?

    I don't know but it looks to me Olaf just didn't switch to .Net but perhaps that does not mean .Net is weaker than VB6, only he just prefers using VB6.
