VS 2012 Re: Report from two tables

No, select * from table1, table2 will give you six columns returned, whereas Union would only return 3 columns.

VS 2012 Re: Report from two tables

Another thing to think of is that 'select * from table1, table2' will get you all fields from both tables. So if you had:

    Table1
    - column1
    - column2
    - column3

    and

    Table2

VS 2010 Re: Some thing wrong when retrieving data

When I read that about not retrieving the data, I immediately thought of the line in TG's signature:

I swear I saved my data, where'd it run off to??? *

VS 2012 Re: Report from two tables

If you don't want a long sql statement you could say

    Select *
    from Table1
    Union
    Select *
    from Table2

If you have any filtering to do, you can do that in the datatable. Either way, though,...

Re: AVG 2015 keeps telling me I have a virus

Get a second (and third) opinion. Disable avg and then use another antivirus software to check your computer - some of them have web versions of their software and others will allow you to download...

Re: How to share VB program with DB

If you go to your project's properties page, choose the 'build' tab, and then choose the 'release' configuration, you can then compile the application to an exe that is ready to go.

    But now, the...
  8. Re: List running applications in other PC in network?

Look under the subheading of 'Services'. Once there you can scan down and find the 'remote registry' service and see if it's running. If not, then turn it on and then go back to the other machine...

Re: How to share VB program with DB

Yep, it isn't clear. You have two access databases - do you have two interfaces? Are the interfaces vb executables or are they built into the database?
  10. Re: List running applications in other PC in network?

Check under AdministrativeTools | Services on the remote machine you're trying to connect to.

VS 2010 Re: Datagridview auto calculate columns.

OK. So that means that the Combobox.SelectedValue wasn't the issue after all, because the type of the SelectedValue is a long value like you're expecting.

Not sure where the issue is...

VS 2010 Re: Datagridview auto calculate columns.

Try using something like this in place of the selected value:

    CType(ComboBox.SelectedValue, DataRowView).Item('whatever index works here.)
  14. Re: List running applications in other PC in network?

After checking obvious stuff like - are both computers turned on - are they both physically connected to the network - can they ping each other - can you see the other machine with windows explorer...

Re: how do I run a query of the type of Update

It sounds more like the problem is 'how to determine if the database is open or closed', since the query runs fine if the database is open.

I'm not familiar with working with queries defined in an...
  17. Re: List running application in a single line in a ListView from computer?

    Something like this maybe:

Dim ProcList As New List(Of String)
    Dim List As String

For Each p As Process In Process.GetProcesses
    ProcList.Add(p.ProcessName)
    ...

    :D Perhaps one day.
  20. Re: 2 elementary questions about vb.net function calls

    1. You can do it either way. Where I find the first way useful is when my return value is an object and I'm going to be referring to that object more than once in the function - setting properties...

VS 2010 Re: Check the names of tabcontrol tabs

    Try TabControl.TabPages.Count - 1

The reason is that the array of tab pages is a zero-based array. So if you have a count of 3, the tabpages will have indexes 0, 1 and 2. So you usually iterate...

VS 2010 Re: selecting datagridview rows

You don't really need to take the computed data and insert it into a datagridview1 - not if you're generating that data in code. I'm not sure exactly how you're creating the data in grid1, but if...

VS 2010 Re: selecting datagridview rows

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

Before answering your question, can I ask where this data is coming from? Is it being entered by hand or read from a database or what exactly?
  25. Re: BackgroundWorker code won't copy files -- why?

Never worked with SharpDevelop - always used Visual Studio.
  26. Re: BackgroundWorker code won't copy files -- why?

Where is BackgroundWorkerCopyFolders being defined? I don't see anything that connects the sub BackgroundWorkerCopyFoldersDoWork to the BackgroundWorkerCopyFolders object. For that matter, I can't...

I would think that having orphaned threads would lead to a memory leak or premature thread termination or some other sort of undesirable outcome.

VS 2008 Re: converting from qbasic code to vbasic

I didn't take a look at your code, and I've never worked with qbasic, but I would think it would be fairly similar to vb - minus the ability to work with windows components. I'm guessing you could...
