Visual Basic 6.0 vs Windows 8
Support Statement for Visual Basic 6.0 on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows 8
Quote:
The Visual Basic team is committed to “It Just Works” compatibility for Visual Basic 6.0 applications on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 including R2, Windows 7, and Windows 8. The Visual Basic team’s goal is that Visual Basic 6.0 applications that run on Windows XP will also run on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows 8. As detailed in this document, the core Visual Basic 6.0 runtime will be supported for the full lifetime of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows 8, which is five years of mainstream support followed by five years of extended support.

It resolves uncertainty for some, and suggests we'll see a Win8 beta release soon.

Yep, good news for vb6, unless your app depends on one of the Unsupported Runtime Files.

Even some of those work fine, they just aren't "supported" (no bug fixes).
A few might not run but Microsoft created drop-in replacements (Triedit.dll for one). You need to package and deploy with sensitivity as to the OS you are installing on or use an isolation manifest.
The rest are mainly ancient holdovers, only in VB6 to help port VB4 and earlier to VB6 back in olden times.
Hmm, just found this: Visual Basic 6: Old Soldiers Never Die…
