This forum runs on vBulletin, which many forums all over the web run on. The site recently upgraded from vBulletin 3.x to 4.x and the changes you see are as result of that. There are obviously still a few glitches to work out but I have used other forums running vBulletin and they perform much better so those issues will be worked through in time as they are not fundamental to the software.
Can you define a "glitch"? There are not just few - there are many that could very well be very fundamental to the users. Nobody cares who and how software was written - what we (the end users) do care about is the outcome.
This release is ugly and not only from estitical view (opinions as always vary) but also from technical design, implementation, etc...
Hello Respected Sir John.
You are right for this upgradation, but don't you think that vbforums.com has lost its reputation, which it had for its ease of use, its charismatic blue color. I've using same type of forum on other hand, Ohhh, I am so tired of that and now the same thing here. I wish that Admin of this site could read this...... :(:(:(
Colours cannot have charisma. You can like the new look or not but I don't think this site will maintain a good reputation by continuing to use an old version of the vBulletin software when other vBulletin sites continue to introduce new features. For example, the New Posts feature is extremely useful for those of us who visit looking for questions to answer. My main issue with the site at the moment is that pages are very slow to load. I'm assuming that that will be fixed in time because other vBulletin 4.x sites don't have this problem.
Really? While I didn't look for it, I never saw it previously while I have used it regularly on other forums that have used vBulletin 4.x for a while. I guess it is, for me at least, more conveniently located in the new version.
Anyway, it's not really for me to defend the decision to upgrade to a new version of vBulletin as I had and have nothing to do with it. We can all like it or not and use it or not. I was just trying to inform the OP that it wasn't just an arbitrary design change for the site but rather a change that was pretty much required in order to stay current with vBulletin.
Nobody likes change but without change one can not grow.
There was a site wide announcement made by Brad before the upgrade but since the upgrade is over and done with now, its not longer posted/announced.
Upgrades also provide increased security and bug fixes as well as new features. Give it some time to settle down and the bug get terminated :)
lol if you don't like the new design you can get a plugin like greasemonkey to change the stylesheet so it looks like the old.. :D you can always find a screenshot of VBF on google somewhere
I'm hoping after all the main issues are resolved here they'll go in and change some of the colors on here to make them more defined/easier to see.
As an average user I don't really care about that - what I do is how "new feature" works compared to the old one.
This new stuff is just not up to old one - not even close. Security, bug fixes, etc - all of that only matter for people maintaining the app.
You want to improve security? Please do it by all means just don't break existing functionality. This new release has broken pretty much everything possibly.
As is right now it's quite ugly.
That is a bit of a stretch. The core functionality of the forum has been restored. And today it has been very responsive, so it looks as though the techs have been ironing out some of the issues.
As for the ugly comment, that is purely subjective. Personally, I quite like the new look.

An admin and others are reading this and the other threads.
I don't think changing colors and a little bit of layout is going to kill a reputation. The reputation is more about the community and interactions.
I do agree the speed is slow, but we are working on that. Indexing is supposed to now be done, so that will help.
Brad!
