Sacramento Zoo has an annoying phone system.
I called the Sacramento Zoo to ask if there was a butterfly exhibit. I wanted to ask an employee. However, their phone system doesn't say anything like "press 9 to speak to an operator" and pressing 0 doesn't work either.
If you have a question for them, I suggest calling visitor services. Their number is just like the general info number except it ends in 8 instead of a 5.
Re: Sacramento Zoo has an annoying phone system.
That's got to be one of the most random posts in the history of CC, but it is oddly fitting. You tell us that the system has a problem, but only hint at what the problem is. So it doesn't say one thing, and pressing 0 detonates a nuclear bomb hidden deep under the Pacific, but other than that, what do the buttons do?
My guess is that you called the general information number, which is used for calling the animals, not for reaching people. The tipoff would be if the message started with something like, "To talk to the whales, howl OOOOAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIEEOOOOOOOO!"
Alternatively, if you have a question for the greater Walla-walla chamber of commerce, I suggest calling some guy in Denmark. His number is just about as random as this whole thread has been thus far.

Guys! Guys!... You're not gonna believe this. I just Googled "does sacrament zoo have a butterfly exhibit" and the first result listed places that have butterfly exhibits, and among them listed was Butterfly Garden in Sacramento Zoo, Sacramento, California. This is the first time I Google got me anything useful. If they keep it up they just might earn some money with this darn contraption of theirs.
Though sad news on their website. Apparently a lot of the gardens, including Butterfly Garden are up for adoption http://www.saczoo.org/Document.Doc?id=11 It's always like that. Kids want to get a garden, play with it for a while and get bored, then when it grows up parents have to take care of it and feed it and they usually end up putting it up for adoption or kicking it out.

Good joke. Some buttons do something that is useful to the end user. Annoyingly, the phone system doesn't give you the option of speaking to an operator.

When I spoke to a lady at Visitor Services, she said they don't have a butterfly exhibit.

Well someone is lying then.
Re: Sacramento Zoo has an annoying phone system.
This is good to know. I never know when I might be in Sacramento and hungry for fried butterfly crepes.

She meant in her office....there is one outside of her window but you can't see it unless you are inside her office looking out.
Re: Sacramento Zoo has an annoying phone system.
I have faced the same problem elsewhere too. It seems their phone system is not optimized to respond properly.
Re: Sacramento Zoo has an annoying phone system.
By the way, a Butterfly Garden <> Butterfly Exhibit. The former is a collection of plants that are pollinated primarily by butterflies and therefore attract butterflies, which never happen to be around on the day you visit. The latter usually means a bunch of butterfly corpses stuck on pins. Those butterflies tend not to move very much, and are generally around on the day you happen to visit.
