Before getting to D3D......??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Hello,
A few days ago I downloaded the Direct X 8 SDK. I planned to mostly use D3D. I was wondering if I jumped into the deep end too soon? I know VB6 pretty well, but skipped learning API and went straight into D3D. I know what API does and stuff, but should I become more familiar with the API shortcuts before I go to D3D?

If you havent used the API before, I strongly recommend doing that first. It gives you a better understanding of things, and when you are learning it (since it covers a LOT of ground) you can learn things you didnt even expect to learn. Also, you may want to toy around a bit with OpenGL, because in OGL you dont have to use matrix things to do rotation and stuff, but that's just my personal opinion.

Wah Wah Wah, you guys =P. If you really want to do DirectX, go for it, but be sure that, as in anything, learn the basics first. In the case of DX, knowledge of API wont help you in the least, as API is function based (like OpenGL), while DX is interface based (classes). The usage is quite different. So, yeah, go ahead and start with DirectX, but be sure not to get ahead of yourself, and take everything in steps. I was into D3D before actually using BitBlt, and I've never used DDraw at all. On the flip side, i would say that I know D3D farily well (Any comments, Sas? =). It is a lot of work though, so be prepared to give up some spare time. If you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask, and Im sure that everyone here will be more than happy to help out.
