Say what you will, but I love Microsoft...
I'm just gonna rant a little here. I don't know, I just love this stuff. I just went looking around on MSDN, and started playing with some stuff, and I'm already about half way through my first windows program in C++. I just love all of this crap That being said, I will now crawl back into my hole.

I love win2k. I'm not a fan of other windozes, nor ADO. Or any kind of database interaction thru VB for that matter.
I've always prefered IE, even when nutscrape was considered better. I dislike this new WinXP registration bollox.
That's about it!

MS is coll but i'm not in Love with it.
My boss hates MS calls it Son of Satan. Runs Eudora, Netscape etc. But funny thing is he runs MS Win98 and office2000 and couldnt get by without them!
For instance i went in there to help him with email and couldnt find where the hell i was going in Eudora!
I said bloody eudora and then he went Son of Satan blah blah.
So i said well i'll remove 98 and office and you can run Linux or Unix and see how ya go?
He shut up!
Thing is MS is most of the time going to have the best product/program why? Coz of this $$$.
If someone came out with a better version of say MS Word then MS would throw around some loose change and make Word better.
Thats what happened with IE and netscape. Now netscape is crap and ie is cool.(my opinion)

MS will rule properly if they take over from UNIX/Java/Sybase in a few years. Until then they rule the desktop and the others rule the internet / enterprise market.
I dare you to go to a Unix/Linux website and say the same thing.

MS does rule..of course, they don't rule in every field but they do make some good products and they are improving from the 9x days.

I don't like M$ purely because it makes Windows (which constantly goes wrong) and because that **** Bill "Im a sad little nerd who is married to a super model but she only stays with me because I'm richer than some of the companies in the UN" Gates... Who I hope will burn in the firey pits of hades for being a ****!

Use
writing software in C++ is like driving rivets into steel beam with a toothpick.
writing haskell makes your life easier:
reverse (p (6*9)) where p x|x==0=""|True=chr (48+z): p y where (y,z)=divMod x 13
To throw away OOP for low level languages is myopia, to keep OOP is hyperopia. To throw away OOP for a high level language is insight.

WordPerfect is better than Word. In my humble opinion of course. Especially the drawing bits, I guess they nicked those out of Corel Draw. The drawing tools in Word are bloody awful.

Isn't Word a Word Processing Package, not a graphical package?
I don't know WordPerfect, but does it incorporate something like VBA, or does it have a lame macro language?
Kedaman, you are a funny one. Why pipe up to say that?

I don't hate MS. I don't love them either. They actually do make decent programs, and I hear their support is good.

Yeah Word is a word processor not a graphics package obviously, but don't tell me you've never had to draw diagrams in a document. Or maybe you haven't in which case count yourself lucky if you're using Word.
To me, Word is one of those things you learn to live with even though you'd rather use something else. My university sent me some forms to fill in; what format were they in do you think? Postscript? PDF? No, Word format like 99% of the organisations out there use. So I have to go and install Word just to be able to view them properly and print them out. They were .dot files not .doc (I think that means templated or something) so I doubt Wordpad would know what to do with them.
Word is bigger, not better. Too many underdeveloped features that I'm never going to use, and not enough that's actually useful to me over and above simple word processing stuff.
I have no idea if WordPerfect has a scripting language, and frankly I don't really care.

Harry,
One of the reason I asked about the macro/scripting language is that there are many large scale organisations that implement custom templates which link to coporate databases, in this case you need a good scripting language.

Yes I know that. Word still isn't as good at writing documents with diagrams in as WP though, which is what I'm interested in (I'm not really interested in VBA if I can avoid it), and as far as I can tell M$ isn't throwing any loose change at this problem.
I'm not trying to say businesses across the world should dump Word, I just don't like it much personally and I don't see that that's going to change any time soon.

I thought bill gates married some biznatch who worked at MS??
I didnt think she was a supermodel by any means!
Harryw:
"what format were they in do you think? Postscript? PDF? No, Word format like 99% of the organisations out there use. "
Which proves my point precisely!
MS has the $$ to spend!
Nucleus: I dont htink they'll take over unix/java i think they'll just go make there own!
Bit of pocket money and a few years and bingo.
BTW i'm not saying MS is better than unix i've argued this in another thread a few weeks ago i'm saying MS has the power to be the best or make itself the best!
