Program Idea, help Required
hi,
One of my friends has an Infrared port on his computer and he wanted a way in which he could comunicate via his IR port to other IR devices he has, such as tv, radio, video, other computers etc, and i was unable to find some software that would do what he wanted. TD came up with an idea about making the software myself, but i am the first to admit i am not the worlds best vb programmer, (and i doubt i will) but i think that i may need more that vb to complete a task like this. What i need is some people that want to help with this program, at the moment i am not sure if we will sell the product, but i think we will and any monies made will be split evenly or on a work done basis. I also need someone who has or has got access to a computer with an IR port so that we can test the program, i will be purchasing one, but not for a few weeks yet, i can tell you that they plug in through a com port.
For more information about Infrared devices check out this site
www.irda.org.
if you would like to help or have any ideas regarding this matter, please either email me at [email protected] or reply here
thankyou for your time
Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

Hi - as a Psion 3 user I've always thought the the Psion should be able to use it's IR port for this sort of thing (I could then leave it there and it would turn on my Video/TV etc according to programmed timings). I think that the problem is likely to be with laptop/psion etc that the RS232 channel is likely to have very distinctive timings for pulse length etc - I have certainly known people have big problems with these in device controil and when I've tried to use to control custom serial devices I've used a third party TTL I/O card to get total control.
Still - I'd be happy to help you by testing software etc if you need help.
Good luck
