Raw GIF/JPEG and SQL

I am trying to access Images stored on a SQL server and display this images on a web page. I know how to access and retrieve the field already, even writing the data to it. My problem is displaying it on the web page. I have come to know that in order for you to do this, you must save the data as RAW, which means no header at all. Question is, does anybody know the header structure of a Gif/jpeg file or the position of the byte where the picture data begins?
