    ASP or PHP?

Which language is better/which would you use? I have narrowed it down to these two and I was wondering if anyone could give me the pro's and con's of these.

PHP Rules! But job people are looking for ASP people more than PHP people

    PHP:
    Pros:
    Fast
    Platform independant
    Easy
    Cons:
    Employers want ASP

    ASP:
    Pros:
    Employers want ASP
If you already know VB, ASP is pretty easy

    Cons:
    Platform dependent(Chill!ASP sucks!!)

Use ASP on Windows and PHP on *nix. Both are pretty easy - PHP is similar to Perl.

I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

Yes, php is alot better than asp in my opinion. I was in the process of learning asp, and then I started playing around with php and it seemed easier for me to code. It's also alot faster than asp. But like dennis said, employers aren't looking for people that know php, but for people that know asp. It's a shame. I think that may change in the future though.

    Just my two pennies.

Well, I was looking for things like speed, resources consumed, security, etc. Any idea on those?

PHP seems to be faster than ASP. On my Windows 2000 box, it seems to run pretty quick and only takes up about 1 meg of disk space. Also, I'm convinced that Linux and BSD are faster running OSes than Windows anyway -- giving preference to the command line over the GUI.

    I like ASP, too, though.
