changing the textbox with the API

I want the functionality of a textbox but I want its background to be transparent. I'd like to be able to type over a graphic without losing the graphic behind the textbox. I'd also like it to be flat, not showing a 3D border.

Is this possible with the standard textbox or will I have to try and create my own control (yeah right!)
