Microsoft will get sued again ?!?

    ***?

Are these people stupid? The World has come to an end...

...Attorneys General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Tom Miller of Iowa said they’re particularly concerned about Microsoft’s plans to bundle new features into its Windows XP operating system, due out this fall, and to offer new Web-based subscription services...
    they've gotta be fu*king kidding....

what microsoft needs is a really good competitor. A company which can clone Windows, and make the apps compatible. (just dont clone the 9,832,432,525 bugs within each module of code )

in my opinion Microsoft should move to some other country that would appreciate the TAXES it would collect and stop bitching about monopoly for christ sake.

i would *****in' move to Mexico or Canada if i was in their position... freaking US doesn't appreciate anything...

Listen, the market sux cuz of MS. They can drive their prices up cuz there is no alternative. If they had decent competition, it would be great. It would give MS motivation to debug their friggin F'ed up apps.

Wait? So you enjoy taking it up the ass from Microsoft?

Okay... this is one of their tactics...

There was a time when they told vendors that they could not include Navigator on a machine with Windows, and that they had to include IE. Which meant that the customer had to buy a machine that had a peice of software that he didn't particularly want to buy (because you had to pay for IE) and didn't have a particular peice of free software (Navigator has always been free) that he wanted.

The vendors had no choice since there was no other home use OS.

That is a bullying tactic that we try to keep big business from doing. If I am a vendor, and I want to sell a computer that has Windows on it and Navigator... why is that wrong?

Also, Microsoft was paying vendors ($10 a pop I think) to remove Navigator before selling the computer. Microsoft had enough money to pay to have a free peice of software removed!

And I don't care if you think Navigator is crap. There was a time when it was much much better than IE. IE sucked so bad, you'd've preffered Lynx.

Anyway, the US appreciates the freedom to choose, not to have those choices made for us by a company that consistently (and knowingly) makes a peice of crap and sells it to us "for our own good."

Yeah, but that's the point. It's our fault because nobody bothers to be a competitor! Except Linux, but that is a *long* way from being a viable home OS. Don't get me wrong, it's a much better OS, but the end-users don't make the distinction between a good OS and a good shell.

As soon as Linux can be installed like Windows (as in - graphical all the way, no messing around with packages, partitions and all that; rather than the bugs ), I'll be happy

Amen. It would also give them motivation to innovate. I can only think of one single technology that MS created.

    XML.

Man... that is such an Earth shattering technology. And I could be wrong... someone else may have come up with the idea.

Amen (again). Linux is a great OS. So is BSD. But it is not ready for the general populace. I love Linux, but it has been a severe pain in my ass since day 1.

By the way, where did you get this
    Comments are for wimps!
    s#/\*[^*]*\*+([^/*][^*]*\*+)*/|//[^\n]*|("(\\.|[^"\\])*"|'(\\.|[^'\\])*'|.[^/"'\\]*)#$2#gs;
That is hilarious. And I'm not even going to wade through it to figure out what he's replacing.

C'mon, we all are pissed at MS for releasing buggy software but you have to aggree that without MS me and millions of other folks would not be living their lifes... i'm sure that there would be something other than MS and we STILL would be bitching about how bad it is and *****.

so please stop complaining about Netscape not being included with every new system. can't you just spend 5 minutes and uninstall the damn thing... we all know that IE sucked before but now it rules and Netscape is the freaking piecie of *****!

i don't know when most of you guys realize that MS gave you jobs that you have, and i'm still pissed at Bill when my Windoze crashes but it's getting better....

So this thread went from Pro-MS, to the inevitable Anti-MS, to Dennis's wild forays into butt sex.

And in less than 20 responses?

No, we chit-chatters (some of us subliminally) disagree. Without MS, other companies would have had the chance to produce much better platforms/applications/utilities.

Sorry, round two. And you are sounding like such a brainwashed... I don't know, yet.

Anyway... my family owned a Ford. It was a peice of ****. As they all are. I own two Toyotas. They were great! I didn't complain about them. I believe that we can have a software company that we won't complain about.

so please stop complaining about Netscape not being included with every new system. can't you just spend 5 minutes and uninstall the damn thing... we all know that IE sucked before but now it rules and Netscape is the freaking piecie of *****!
IE doesn't rule. It is just getting by. Netscape 6 has taken a turn for the worse, yes. But you don't understand. This practice is not about good software or bad.

Okay, let me give you an example...

A company makes cotten linens, bed sheets and things. They sells their linens to a hotel chain, but they say, "You can't use our sheets on a bed with their mints. You have to us our mints, which you have to buy."

"But, sir, their mints are free. Why can't we just put two mints on the pillow."

"Well, if you want to use their mints, then you don't get any sheets."

Do you see how this tactic doesn't help society? If the hotel decided, or the consumer decided that they liked one over the other, fine. But for a company to abuse its market share and deny the consumer a chance to choose....

i don't know when most of you guys realize that MS gave you jobs that you have, and i'm still pissed at Bill when my Windoze crashes but it's getting better....
Uhm... MS gave me my job? ***? Let me see... MS hasn't innovated anything. Which means if they weren't around, then all of the technology we have would still be. My last two jobs I worked with IBM's MQ/Series. Again, no MS involvement.

    Lets see...

    JavaScript Netscape
    Java Sun
VB is still BASIC trumped up. BASIC came from who?
VC++ is again, just trumped up C++, which is from C, which is from B, which if from BPL....
ASP *heh* I'd much rather use PHP or JSP.
    HTTP/HTML Cern
Web Browsers BYU? NCSA? Those guys who wrote Mosaic. Oh, wait... they went on to form Netscape.
Windows Nope, got that Apple, who got it from Xerox.

So how do you suppose MS gave me my job? By stealing it from someone else?

who is preventing anybody from producing "better" platforms? and the applications? there is some great Win applications written by non-MS companies and they're not complaining about MS!

i know that everybody knows about MS these days and it's really hard to compete with them but it's not Bills fault that he was at the right place in the right time!

I'm sorry... It's not Bills fault?

He has systematicly undermind his competition, the government, the populace.

Let me guess... you are stupid enough to believe that the Third Reich was not Adolph's fault, that he was just in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time.

But the computer industry was growing decades before Gates. Everybody on this board would still have a job without MS.

Henry Ford was the first to use an assembly line for cars. But that wasn't the first car and it wasn't the first assembly line. To say we wouldn't have mass produced cars without Henry Ford is foolish. Someone else would've done it. He just happened to have been that guy.

And yes, we are bitching. But what has MS done good? What should we thank them for?

    I couldn't've been Bill 20 years ago. I have a concious.

20 Years ago I would've loved to have been Steve W. or Paul Allen (or worked for Xerox or DEC, or maybe IBM or AT&T). They did real work, they innovated. Sure, I don't like their work all that well, but they at least did work and let the public do with it what they wanted.

20 Years ago I would've gotten screwed up the ass by Bill Gates just like everyone else.

Ill tell u why. I once got an email saying, "make $$$$ very easily!!" it said "click start-run, type notepad. press enter. now, very carefully, while holding down on shift, press "4" 4 times." Now that wasnt the kind of $$$$ i wanted, so i sent out my resume. CIBC called up and wanted me. They give me alot of $'s so I'm happy. I would just as fast take a C or PHP position.

This always makes me laugh. There seems to be one camp (people who hate Microsoft) who think that everyone else is against them and wrong.

Well, I'm here to tell you that I don't particularly like MicroSoft, but I don't hate them the way you guys do! I just don't care either way! Why do you guys always get so upset? I work with MicroSoft products because the work pays well and it keeps me fed and a roof over my family.

Face facts. Like it or not, MS are in charge of the market for the time being. In the same way that IBM where 20 years ago. Companies rise and fall. Being successfull is not a bad thing. I don't agree with their tactics, but I'm afraid you will find that all big companies are pretty ruthless.

Do you really think they will stop doing what they do so as to avoid hurting your feelings. Ranting and raving about it will only get you an early grave (heartattack/stress).

Chill out, don't let it bother you. Go with the flow. There are alot more serious issues in the world to worry about than who's OS is on a computer. If you can't live without a computer then there's something seriously wrong.

    Just my two pennies worth.
