Recording sound

Does anyone know of any software which lets you record whatever audio is currently being playing by your sound card no matter which application is playing the sound?

Record sound in what format. Am trying to track down some software to record .wav We had it, but our servers have been sliced and diced. And of course no one thought of backing up the friggin utilities one:eek:

want .wav record thingy.
