What to do?
I'm in the process of building a PC to take to Uni with me, and I'm unable to decide which OS to use between Win 98SE and Win2K Professional. Whichever I choose will be dual booted with Mandrake Linux.
Here's a list of what I usually use my computer for..
1) Programming, mainly in VB
2) Games
3) Web Design (Ultradev, Fireworks)
I'd like you all to vote on the poll, and post why you feel I should go with either OS. Please try to keep this thread sensible, and don't bother Microsoft bashing, coz I don't wanna hear it.
TIA!!

Personally I actually found Win2k Pro ran alot slower on my AMD Athlon 850 with 256 Mb RAM (PC133) than Win98 so i would say go for Win98. One thing Win2k Pro has going for it are the effects on the menu bars when they fade in and out instead of just appearing. It's Cool
but anyway thats just my $0.02
Now, aren't you sorry you didn't just keep on scrolling?

Monday Morning Lunatic
Well that's one of them...
Win2K is a LOT better than Win98, unless your hardware doesn't work with it (like mine) -- even SP2 doesn't fix the problem with VIA chipsets On my other PC it's not failed to run a single program

On that note, has anyone else had problems with Win2K and VIA Chipsets, especially KT133?

okay I just read his post. So when you said "Anyone else" you meant other than you and Parksie. Hmm, in that case, I don't know.

I meant anyone other than Parksie...I've never tried Win2K on my machine, which has a VIA KT133 Chipset, hence the question.

Yeah i have a VIA chipset and i was wondering why win 2k don't work for me.
I am in the same prediciment as John here, ME has finally pissed me off and i need to keep it for five more weeks, then bye bye, but again i want mandrake and something else, what else is there that is good
I used to lie win98 but ME is nicer but it can be a pain in the ass,
i think i will go back to 3.1 i like that *mm dos memorys return
Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

Pual, got to love a geek, has his laptop booting into any one of Win98, WinNT, Linux, and BEOS. BEOS? His major problem is his Star Trek screen saver, (the original don't you know), wont run on all of them. He's in for a surprise this morning, was in a particular good frame of mind, and decide he would much prefer the Wallace and Gromit screen saver. Have warned him about leaving it unattended
