DBGrid

I started with a table that had many columns that were a date field and so I normallized it to make it more simple for the user to manipulate in my app. I did this by using a DBgrid to display the years. However, for some reason adding a new record does not work in the DB grid and I ecen have the allowAddNew set to true. Is there some other property or method I am missing. When I tab down to enter a new row I get the message 'The specified row could not be ocated for updating. Some values may have been changed it was last read.' I appreciate any help on this matter.
