Yep, once you install it you're lost :)
MS warned you!
Well you can still re-install windows...
btw: Anyone know where I should put my program in so it starts before Novell and such programs? (Win98)

Nope! It IS possible to uninstall! I helped someone out with that problem once, and he found a prorgam at zdnet.com, that allowed DX to be removed. I think it's called something like DirectX Remover.

I know Microsoft said you can't uninstall it, but it would of ben nice if they told me it didn't *****ING work before I installed it.

Me neither. Have you tried to put it in the Startup folder in your start menu? And why do you need it to run before other programs?

Well I tried everything, the registry (\Run\ and \RunOnce\), win.ini, autostart, ...
All I need to know is what Novell does so I can replace it

You know, there are certain things only Microsoft knows. Like, I have MSN Messenger. How the hell did it create a button for itself in IE? It does the same even in older versions! It must be some kind of "back door" with a 10,000 chars keyword :)

it runs way before windows even initilizes. I think it is installed before you install windows and takes over the boot sequence for windows. so it woun't have anything to do with the reg/boot.ini, win.ini or anything. I will find out more today for ya, k bud :)

I also have not had a single problem with DX8. It is quite a joy to work with =).
And Jotaf, that button is just a plug-in for IE that MS created. Hotbar does the same thing. There is probably lots of info around for that kind of stuff. MS wouldnt use a backdoor for something obvious like that.... the back door is for turning off your refridgerator everytime you run IE >=).

Novell is a Win32 application. i CANT run before windows initializes, because it requires windows to run. Trust me, it IS a windows System service. Look around for the keyword "Service" in the MSDN index. you should find a bunch of info.

I don't think DX was the problem. I think the problem was with windows. Alot of games out ther have patches for windows 2000 and/or Me. This seems to fix most of the problems. I thought it was Dirct X because it was only DX aps that were crashing.
I don't know why MS would make DX uninstallable. If it doesn't work right what a great way to insure you never play a game again on you'r computer.
here's uninstallers for DX. For anyone who is intreasted...

Btw, Fox, you mentioned checking out Run and RunOnce in the registry, but have you tried RunServices? Also, I think Windows runs those programs in order of which they were created in the registry, so if the Novell thing is started using RunServices, remove it, add your program, then put back the Novell thing...
