Many people want to transfer their post counts to another name, and maybe we can do that. In optioins there can be a feature that you can give post counts to anyone (they would of course choose their other name). Security might then be a problem, but its worth a shot. :)

What i always thought it should be is you sign in with one name, and then you can have it display another name, so you can change it and all the post will change.

I agree with Harry.
I dont care what the post count is of a person as long as they answer the question correctly!

I don't mind post counts, but I don't understand why anyone would need to change his/her screen name. Those who should do it, don't do it. And those who do it, don't have to do it. That's the problem.

Over a period of time, we can see that the dummy users like Batman the Fatman, the famous Wonder Woman have vanished.

Even members who had taken second names for Chit Chat, like denniswrenn (Benjamin) have discontinued the use of their other names, and Active had probably forgotten his original screen name G. Kumaraguru.

It might be nice to have functionality to change your current username though...

We have chosen not to allow people to change their username, because it could quite easily but used for the wrong reasons. If the user makes a fool out of themselves, for whatever reason, (eg offending others on the board), then they would just be able to run away, change their name, and confuse everyone else.

Also, the only way for us to change user names is to do so manually, and it is not something that we want to have to do, so we have a policy of no user name changes.

Thanks for clarifying that.

One more doubt, though. How do you verify/determine/find out that a user exists under two different screen names ?

IP addresses... not that complicated really.

Even a dialup connection with Server-assigned IP address, a proxy server etc. don't complicate matters ??

If they logged out of VB-W, disconnected their modem, reconnected and logged in as the other user every time they wanted to change they would have a different IP address, but the IP address still comes from the same block.

True.

Not worth the trouble.
