Hi,
I'm trying to do a multiplayer-RPG in VB 6.0.
If you are interested on drawing graphics, creating levels or programming, mail me.

Some informations
-Tile-based 2D engine with 3 layers (first solid, second with 1Bit-transparency, third with alpha-transparency).

-I'm using a script language for making the game flexible

-Before we can get started I want to build a team so we can discuss what exactly we're going to do

I'm glad to get some responses...

It sounds very intrigueing. I'm currently looking for some programming to do - I really want to develop my skills more.

How complicated is something like that? I've never really about using VB in this kind of context. I know someone who might be interested in the graphics, too.

I'd be interested in this. Could you send me more details of what you think you will require.

I would be interested in helping, I am so-so on vb programming but very good with graphis, specializing in 3d. I could helpwith the characters(ofcourse making into 2d). Just let me know if/when your serious about starting.

OK, thanks for all your replies.

I just wanted to say that you can visit our website to see who's still needed.

I decided to chat in ICQ, so please get it.
I'll inform you when the chat happens...

(We'll discuss about the game, what to do and so one)

He guys,

I just surfed through the old posts and found this nice one, remember? Well now, 3 months and 10 days later ;), I think we should getting started developing our game...

As you know I made some object management, also collision and some graphics stuff. I think (If I have enough time) the engine will be finished in a few months. I know that it's still a big job and there will be many problems, for sure! But if I get problems you know, I'll ask here (Altough I never get answers, right Harry ;))

Ok then, wish you a good day and.. have fun!

So, Fox, what guys do you need? What have you got so far, are you still working with bitblt or have you changed to directdraw? (I only saw your demoversion of derzirkel) If so I would like to work with you since i want to learn more on using directX. Hmmm, i'm going on my holiday tomorrow so I'll be back at monday. See ya!

You prolly read the communication area forum.. The
object management is now finished and I'm currently
improving the script system. It all works fine so far...

I also decided to use DirectX as soon as the core
game works. And you can be sure, it will not take much
time to switch to DX since the game's very module-based.
But for the moment DX is not very usefull in cause of
debugging... (especially DDraw)

Well, who do we need? I'm not sure about this. It
seems that I'll code the whole engine myself so that's not
the problem.. But when it's finished I'll need people to
write scripts, draw graphics and design levels and stuff...
(That's what I'm bad at, especially the graphics ;))

But like I said, I'm not sure about that right now.
Be sure I'll post further things at the communication
forum...

And PsyVision, I'll send you further things by ICQ k?

Cheers Fox (Good Man) I have got Direct X 7.0 but have not used it much as i cannot create the .x files and do not have many resources and any good tutorials, if i get into the team then i would have to code coz of no experience in 3d worlds except Truespace 2.0 allthough i've had some expo in direct x coding

Fox
Jun 14th, 2000, 03:39 AM
Erm, our game's going to be 2D... also I want to tell you that .x files are crap! Write a little import function to load ase files or something.. you can create such 3D models with 3DSMAX for example...

And well, as I said we don't need any programmer atm... sorry.

PsyVision

Oh yeah, sorry, any more info, and i don't have 3dmax.

Why not use Direct3D for cool lightning effects and to speed up the game? I'm doing a tile-based editor with D3D, and well, at least it looks great!

Fox
Jun 14th, 2000, 04:03 AM
Well, it's tile-based and it's gonna be a online game like Ultime Online... Also nearly the whole game is controlled by a script system so it's easy to update (In fact the engine will only call and execute scripts, not more).

Well, which job do you want to do if not coding?

Fox
Jun 14th, 2000, 04:04 AM
I didn't say that we won't use D3D, only that it's a flat game... ;)

PsyVision
Jun 15th, 2000, 12:17 AM
If i cannot code then designing something (levels, layouts) would be what i could do. Fox, you should take a look at the D3D editor that Zombie has made see if we can make something like it, or create a new one.

Fox
Jun 15th, 2000, 12:22 AM
Like I said, we WILL use DirectX, nearly for the whole game (Direct Input, Draw, 3D, Sound, Music and Play).

Designer is ok, do you have any examples of your work?

PsyVision
Jun 15th, 2000, 12:45 AM
What kind of work do you want ?

Fox
Jun 15th, 2000, 12:56 AM
Uhm, anything... Do you prolly have any self-drawn graphics or something? Or did you plan a level map... whatever you think shows me your skills ;)

I'm working on the same kind of game, but this time with BitBLt. DirectX is a new technology for VB, so I need some kind of help. Do you know of any place where I can learn DirectDraw to replace BitBLt?

Jun 15th, 2000, 06:37 AM
Try this link. It provides many other links too, about DirectX

Also you can find some DirectX demos (http://orion.spaceports.com/~mccloud/coding/directx.htm) on my website ;)

PsyVision

I haven't used directx/graphics at the mo, i'm new so...
