Cool Macromedia Fireworks, image fading, graphics gurus help needed :-)

Hey guys - just a graphics problem.

I want some way of fading an image into the background using Fireworks 4... for example, I know how to do gradient fills and all, but I want to fade an image that's already there (transparent background) so it fades nicely into the background... is it possible? If not, does anyone know of a prog that does it?

You should be able to do it in Fireworks with no problem.. Though a quick question... are you trying to fade out over time? If you are don't do it in Fireworks... Use either Flash or ImageReady...

I could do it in photoshop/imageready. have a look at online tutorials for a vignette effect and then amend it to what you want to do.

If you post it, someone may be able to help you further.

The Effect can be achieved using Layer Masks. In Adobe photoshop or image ready...

1.Open the Background image in Phostoshop (Image A)

2.Open the second image in another window. (Image B)

3.Copy and paste the second image(Image B) in the background image window

4.You will now have two layers. (See in the layers window)

5.Now choose from the Layer Menu -> Add layer Mask ->Hide All

6.Use the paint brush tool and choose the white color paint.

7.Paint over the hidden layer and slowly Image B will reveal itself
    amidst Image A

8.If you need something to be hidden again..use the black color.

If you need me to do the thing for you, attach the image.

Thanks guys, but I need to do it in Fireworks.

I need to to it, not just over time, but like as a static image...

Yes in Fireworks click the object you want to fade.

Make sure you have the object toolbar open.

In the top left corner of the object toolbar is a chequered rectangle. Next to that is 100 in a drop down box. Change the value in this to change the opacity of the object.

THanks very much Alex, but won't that just change the opacity of the whole image? I want it to become gradually completely transparent...
